unemployment rose from 5.5 to

The department said nearly 2

Suffering
volunteer subjects, became hys'
tcrical.
She was reported improved
Thursday after a session with a
psychiatrist, but later lapsed
back into hysteria.
"We don't know exactly how
long it will take for her to re
cover, said Dr. Charles wells,
one of the physicians attending
the cirl. "Possibly in two or
three weeks."
She still has episodes of hallu
dilations," he said. "She is going
to need very close care for the
next few days. This is the cru
cial time."
Wells said he felt hypnotism
shows "should be outlawed in the
schools."
Cunaingham was to have per
formed at another Elizabcthton
school Thursday, but the show
was cancelled.
Mayor W. G. Frost and City
Manager W. Paul Crumley said
it has been the practice to leave
the question up to the individual
schools. The county school boardl
disclaimed any knowledge of the
Unaka High School show.
'As for me," Crumley told
United Press International, "I
question the wisdom of having
this form of entertainment in the
schools."
The Rev. Herman Hood, a Bap
tist minister, said the school
board rather than Cunningham
bears most of the blame.
The Elizabcthton Star, in a
front page editorial Wednesday,
said thai hypnotists, "profession
al or amateur, should not be al
lowed to perform on students."
