    J. Dean Pleads Innocent
In Murder Of Brother
John Wesley Dean. 57, pleaded
innocent to the second degree
murder of his brother, Hagan
Lindbergh Dean, 37, in one of
two entries of plea received by
Judge David R. Vandenberg in
circuit court yesterday. Judge
Vandenberg set Thursday, Oct.
31, as the date for the trial.
Log Crushes
Portland Miss
OCEANLAKE (UPI) A Port.
land girl, Carol Graves, 16, was
crushed by a rolling log in (die
surf at North Oceanlake beach
Wednesday afternoon.
Carol, the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. E. W. Graves, was playing
on the log when a wave rolled it
over, pinning her underneath. Her
sister and a girl companion jump
ed to safety.
The victim was on a short vaca
tion with her parents.
The defendant is accused of
having inflicted a mortal knife
wouhd on his brother as the two
men scuffled on the sidewalk in
the vicinity of 504 'a South Fifth
Street, last July 8.

Pistol Meet
MEDFORD An Invitational
Peace Officers Pistol Meet will
be staged here Sunday, sponsored
by the Medford Police Department.
Police agencies from all over
Oregon are expected to send
teams and individual officers to
the meet. A team from the Klam
ath Falls Police Department may
attend.
Teams will consist of five mem
bers. The meet will be fired under
Practical Police Course rules and
will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday
at the Medford Police Range.
Officers must use .38-caIibrc re
volvers and there will lie a $2 en
try fee.
Trophies will be awarded to
champions in each of the six
matches.

day he has no intention of re
signing, at least until somtone

er an unofficial meeting of th?
Seaside Chamber of Commerce
and Junior Chamber of Com
merce held in the wake of the
second consecutive year of Labor
Day rioting by youths at the
beach resort.
Chamber President V. A. Ter
Har said 102 persons, the entire
crowd, raised their hands in favor
of requesting the mayor's resigna
tion
Ter Har raid the petition was
drawn up and signed by fi9 per
sons alter the four-hour meeting
and delivered to Pysher at his
home at midnight.
The Chamber president indi
cated there might be an effort to
make a clean sweep of all city
officials, hut he added "I feel
there should be a complete inves
tigation before taking any action."
Speakers at the meeting were
critical of the mayor's leadership
and the fact that he was out of
tow n when the riots started.
Pysher today demanded a list
of the reasons behind the ieli
tions. "Alter all, it was just a piece
of scrap paper scribbled on with
a lead pencil and I could hardly
read it." he said. "The names
tlvat were signed were the same
disgruntled, deleated group that
has been against me all along.
"Until they accuse me and
draw up this request in legal
form. I can't answer."
Ter Har said he thought someone
might accommodate the mayor to
day. Meanw hile. 25 more court cases
