LAKEVIEW - A warning Is;
given by the Fremont Forest Serv-

on the FUhhole road in the Bly
ranger district. Campers are cau
tioned again that spring water at
the upper end of Lofton Reser

Fork of Sprague River, but there
is no report for other 6lreams
or reservoirs. Fire danger Is ex
treme in lower elevations where
grass is mature.
TWe is increased log hauling
on Dog Lake Road 4017 and Road
375 West, toward Bly, in the
Drews Valley ranger district. Mo
torists are urged to use turnouts
when meeting loaded trucks. Fish
ing success has slowed and fish
from Cottonwood taste of algae.
With high fire danger, all forest
users are asked to be extra care
ful with camp fires and smoking.
All main roads on the Paisley
district are dusty and rough; all
trails can be used but there is
fallen timber. Fishing is poor on
the Chewaucan River; fair on the

been good. Fire danger is still
high and shovels, buckets, and
axes are still required. Caution
should be taken in cheat grass
and bloudown areas.
A watch for logging traffic is
cautioned on the Benny Creek ami
Forest truck roads of the Silver
Lake district. It is recommended
that campers bring their own
drinking water if camping at sil

Archery hunting was slow over
the weekend on the Warner dis

Do you dream in black and
white or, gorgeous colors? Scien
tific observers at the University
of Chicago sleep laboratories have
found that you may do cither, and
that they can control this and oth
er aspects of dreaming by giving
their subjects certain hormones.
When they gave pituitary ex
tract, the subjects had pleasant
dreams that were easily remem
bercd and came complete with u
full range of color. When they
gave adrenal extract tho dreams
were frightening, hard to remem
ber, and colorless.
To another question: Do ani
mats talk in our dreams? I can
give a personal answer. Animals
that I have enjoyed as pets do
talk, and I believe that this indi
cates that anything that we arc.
capable of imagining may appear
to us as a reality w hen we dream.
The blind have also been found
to dream. The only difference is
that if they were born blind they
dream only of the world as they
know it. In their dreams they
hear, touch, taste, and smell but
nave no visual images.
In tlinse who become blind after
their visual sense has been well
develowd, visual images become
loss and less a part of their
dreams as time goes on.
One of the important discover
ies that has been made about
dreaming is that it appears to he
not only inevitable, but also a
necessary accompaniment . of
sleep. When sleeping subjects were
awakened every time rapid eye
movements indicated that they
were starting to dream, it was

THE DOCTOR SAYS
Color Or Not,
Dreams Important
possible to insure that they had
a truly dreamless night:
This was found to increase the
number of times the subject would
start to dream as though the mind
was not going to take these inter
ruptions without a protest
When this prevention of dream
ing was persisted in for several
nights the subjects became edgy
jittery, and had great difficulty
concentrating.
At this point they were allowed
to dream uninterruptedly. The
length of time spent ill dreaming
was found to be twice what it
had normally been. This was true
for several nights.
Other subjects were awakened
the same number of times as
the first group had been, but at
times when they were not dream
ing. They did not become upset
and, when allowed to sleep with
out interruption, the length of
their dreams was not increased.
This Would seem to indicate
that dreaming, in some way not
yet known, helps us to maintain
our balanace and get the most
good from our sleep.
