operator of a small dog kennel
and pet store here says he has
the longest dog sled team in the
world.
I It is so long, in fact, that Rob
ert Black talks to his lead dog
through a battery-operated radio
system.
Black also boasts something
unique int he dog world.
;Mrs. Black combs the dog team
and turns the combings into
"sammy wool," or an odorless,
angor-like wool that can be used
to make sweaters.

Diiane Crane, superintendent of
the division.

ernment today filed a complaint
against owners of the Pilot Butte
Inn in Bend charging a fraudulent
mortgage transfer.
The lengthy complaint filed in
Federal Court, claimed that Wil
liam and Gertrude Corbett paid
off a $279,000 mortgage in Decem
ber of 1955 and then had a false
mortgage assigned to a company
set up to defeat government leins.
The complaint alleged (hat when
the government attempted to fore
close on the leins, the company,
Dickerson. Inc., moved In and
claimed prior right under the
mortgage.
The government charged that as
a result of the mortgage transac
tion a fraud was perpetuated on
it and the Deschutes County Cir
cuit Court which foreclosed on the
alleged second mortgage Nov. 12,
1958,
plaint claimed the unpaid balance
amounts to $132,442.
J he complaint also asked a pre
liminary injunction restraining any
further property transfers pending
disposition of the case. Federal
Judge William East set a hearing.

Conference. It says recent tests
among juvenile delinquents in Los
Angeles showed 32 per cent suf
fering from hearing impairments.

The cattle are different. They're
fat and not as tough as the long
horns of days gone by.
But when it comes to working
them at roundup time, it's just
like the Old West.
No Better Way
Dick Shannon, tall ramrod ol
the Slash S. Ranch in eastern
Oklahoma, says there's a good
reason.
"We do it like they did it in the
old days because there's just no
better way to handle cattle," he
says. "A roundup is the easiest
way to get an accurate count
and check condition of stock."
For the Slash S cowpuncher,
roundup means the day begins
before dawn and ends after the
sun goes down. The pay is $90
a month, bunk and beans.

in the Drews Valley district. The
Dog Lake road has been graded
but persons traveling this road
are cautioned to watch for log

Fish at Cottonwood Lake are be
ginning to taste of algae: how
ever fishing remains good. Fire
danger is extreme.
In the Paisley district all main
roads are open and passable,
and all trails can be used, but.
watch for fallen timber. All camp
grounds are open. Fishing is good
on the Sprague, Chewaucan and1
Campbell Lake have been very
good for fishing. The recent rain
was spotted and in some areas
fire danger is extremely high.
Caution should be taken in cheat
grass and blowdown areas. Shov
els, buckets, and axes are re
quired.
All cinder roads and most un
surfaccd roads are open but dusty
in the Silver Lake district. All
campgrounds are open to picnick
ing. Thompson Reservoir camp is
crowded on weekends. It is rec
ommended that campers bring
their own drinking water if camp
ing at Silver Creek March or
East Bay camps. Very good suc-
cess on troll or still fishing at
Thompson Reservoir. Fire
danger is high.
In the Warner district all roads
are passable but generally dusty.
All campgrounds are open and
usable. Persons using campfires
are requested to extinguish fires
before leaving. Fishing is fair in
small creeks. Fire danger is mod
derate with recurring light
ning storms. All persons are asked
to report fires to nearest rang
er station. North Warner area
closed to power saws on Satur
days, Sundays and holidays.

GASTONIA, N.C. (UPIi-Danny
Brooks, 10, won a reprieve from
the dentist's chair with a flashy
bit of footwork.
Danny bolted from a dentist's
chair after a bib was fastened
around his neck Tuesday after
noon to prepare him for a tooth
extraction.
The boy bolted across two
roads and into a woods. Search
crews were called.
A family living in the woods
said the boy passed their house
fairly flying.
After a two-and-one-half hour
hunt, Danny was found crouched
in the grass of a median strip
between two highways. When he
spotted his would-be rescuers, he
bolted for the woods again but
the rescue squad members proved
faster on their feet.
When last seen, Danny's father
was taking him home, the den
tist's bib still around the boy's
neck.
The Nobel Peace Prize was not
awarded for 19515.
