arale districts, Cliff Robinson,
county district school superintend
ent, indicated Thursday.
The architect firm of Morrison,
Howard and Sturbuck was in
sU-ucted to plan a building that
will ultimately fit the needs of
1.200 students. Preliminary plans
indicate the building will be con
structed from serial levy monies
in five separate phases. The total
cost was estimated at $1,300,000.
If the entire county was reor
ganized into a metro-rural two
district set-up would there still be
a need for a 1,200-student building
at Henley, Robinson was asked.
"The need wouldn't be there
rignt away, but we would pro
ceed according to plan and build
as needed until the final 1,200-
student goal is reached," the su
perintendent said.
The first construction phase
calls for a 25.000 square foot build
ing that will accommodate 300
students. The next phase involves
a 26.000 square foot addition with
total student capacity of 500.
These two units should be thought
of as additions to the present
Henley High since students in the
new building will be still taking
some classes in the old school.
The new school will not be
self-contained unit, as far as the
students are concerned, until the
completion of the third phase
which involves a 42.000 square foot
addition for a total capacity ol
BOO students.
It is at this third stage that
traveling "across campus" will
be unnecessary.
In the first phase a girls' gym
and dressing room will be con
sU ucted along with a homemak
ing room, six classrooms and two
science labs. There will also be
heating plant and equipment
room.
Additions of five classrooms,
two music rooms, a library, shop
and administration unit will
come during phase two. A prin
cipal and administrative staff will
be hired at this point.
The boys' gym facilities, a ca;
etcria, four more classrooms, two
new labs, another homemaking
unit and more administration of
(ices will be added in phase three
and the school will be a self-con
tained unit for the first time.
The last two phases just con
tinue the expansion of rooms and
other facilities to meet the need:
of a greater number of students
