oughly immoral man," denied
that he lived wholly or in part

prostitute. lie said he was "hor
rified to learn" that she was tak

"It depends on what you mean
by a prostitute,", he told the
court. "If you simply mean

tones of the bagpipes provided an
appropriate fanfare for the musi
ians, strolling, minstrels, and
danccrs-on-the-green who timed
their appearance from the woods
on the fading notes of the pipers.
Costumes, choreography and in
strumental arrangements drawn
from the Elizabethan era effec
tively created the atmosphere of
an authentic Shakespearean revel,
climaxing with a torchlight parade
up the hill to the theatre site.
First nightcrs included a host
of state dignitaries, press officials.
and prominent educators, intro
duced during the brief opening
ceremonies by Rep. John Dellen-
back of Medford, acting for the
governor. Dellenback expressed
the sentiments later reflected by
the enthusiastic standing - room-
only crowd when he praised the
theatre s real contribution to the
staging of Shakespeare throughout
the world. '
Among those attending the per
formance were Federal Judge
John Kilkenncy, Stale Treasurer
Howard C. Belton and Mrs. Bolton,
Dr. Elmo Stevenson of Southern
Oregon College, Dr. Leota Willis
of the University of Washington.
Dramatic Rights Battle
Waged In New York City

At the comer of Clarkson Ave.
and Lenox Road in Brooklyn,
New York City, one of the most
dramatic skirmishes in the civil
rights battle is being waged.
The immediate issue at stake is
the alleged discrimination against
Negroes in Die employment of
construction workers. The crux of
the matter appears, however, to
be pail of a long-standing and
simmering bitterness against
what Negroes call the North's
segregation in fact.
Thursday saw "chain-ins" in
troduced to the New York racial
struggle. - Negroes locked them
selves together at the Brooklyn
site where a new hospital is un
der construction next door to the
basic sciences building of the
downstate medical center.
Police separated the demon
strators with bolt cutters and
hauled them off to jail. At 2 p.m.
Thursday, the count was 532 ar
rests for the week, a record not
matched in many places in the
South.
Demonstrators lie down before
moving traffic on Lenox Road.
They have halted a number ot
huge cement mixers carrying
fresh concrete to the new build
ing w hich has its steel girders up.
Some ' have narrowly escaped
being run over.
Liberal Voting Area
In the tree-shaded Brooklyn
neighborhood, a mixture of frame
private dwellings and large apart
ment buildings, the chain-ins
have provided a slrango commen
tary on the race issue. It is an
area apparently picked for this
reason where there is a large
liberal vote in every election.

Benson's delivery and manner
isms were perfectly geared to the
character of Falstaff, and his 230

frame added to
Wooing wives to get lo their
husband's money, Falstaff is
foiled by a well-contrived conspir
acy of two women possessing both
wit and virtue. Leading him on
only to expose him as a fat pom
pous rogue Elizabeth Huddle as
Mistress Ford and Judith Hoppe
as Mistress Page wero delightful
as the deceiving dames bent on
imposing their own brand of com-;
Falstaff.

played by Virginia Flick. Three
swains after a pretty maid, who
loves only one against her par
ents' wishes, contribute more hi-
cent other races on jobs financed
by state or city funds.

Gov. Nelson Rockefeller, whose
New York City office has been
regularly picketed over the issue

is unworkable.

the integration rallies in Dixie
Negro churches.
The fight of the Negroes was
for more of the good jubs. A, top
grade construction worker can
earn almost $11,500 a year in
New York for 40 hours of work
a week.

port of the state fire marshal who
was here during the week.
The owers and operators ofrequired,
the home, Mr. and Mrs. Wil
bur Mautz, had been notified by
the State Board of Health to close
the place immediately because a
sprinkler system had not been
installed in compliance with a
ruling of tlie slate fire marshal's
office. The Lake County Court had
contacted Governor Hatfield's of

Fremont National Forest, all sur
faced roads are open and dusty
on the Bly ranger districf. There
is heavy logging traffic on Road
3312 and logging trucks are also
on other roads, with some haul
ing on Saturdays. Trails are all
open.
Campgrounds at Sprague Riv
er, Lofton and Corral Creek are
open; no drinking water is avail
able at Lofton Reservoir. The
fishing at Lofton and the south
fork of Sprague is fair: good at
Hart Lake, but there is no re
port on Blue Lake, Sycan River,
or the north fork of the Sprague.
Fire danger is high.
In the Drews Valley district,
the roads are all open, except
for some side roads in the Thom
as Creek area, and becoming
dusty. All campgrounds are open,
with Cottonwood being the most
used. There are some comments
on fish tasting of algae from Cot
tonwood Meadows. Lake.
The Paisley Ranger District re
ports all surfaced roads passable,
but side roads and unsurfaced
roads are rough. All trails are I
usable but have fallen timber on
them. It is recommended that
persons take their own water
supply if camping at Marstor
Spring. All campgrounds are

Rocket Falls
From Plane
SALISBURY. Md. UPI A
highly explosive rocket dropped
accidentally from a Navy plane
has been "pinpointed" in a 160
acre wooded, area, Maryland
state police said today.
The rocket was lost Thursday
by a Sky Raider plane which was
on a firing practice run from the
super carrier rorrestal oil the
Virginia tapes.
A Navy spokesman said that the
