topped the other league teams
without a loss. Tulclake leads the
American League of the Basin

Crater's Bob Williams hurled
the win with a four-hitter, the
most hits any team has knocked
off the Crater hurling this sea

Ity I'nilrd Prrst International
Sensational southpaw Pete Rich
ert is making a strong bid to get
back with tlie Los Angeles
Dodecrs. While he is at it, he is
ilso pitching Spokane to the Pa
cific Coast eLague's Northern Di
vision title.
The hard-throwing lefty made
his PCL record 5-0 Monday night
while turning in his second best
performance. His best, of course.
was that seven-inning no-hitter he
served up June 29. Monday night,
he disposed of second place Ta-
coma 3-0 as both teams collected;
but three hits.
It was a tough one for lefty
Jim Constable to lose. Spokane
tallied one run without a hit inl
the fourth and the other wheni
Dick Berardino tripled and stole
home.
Safe Margin
The win moved the Indians to
a healthy 4 game lead in the
northern loop. As for the 23-year-
old Richert. he has now labored
47 innings and surrendered
earned runs for better than a 2.00
mark.
In other PCL action Monday
night, Oklahoma City outfought
San Diego 6-5 to move a half
game ahead of idle Dallas-Ft.
Worth in the tense Southern Divi
sion chase.
Elsewhere, it was Seattle :

CHICAGO clIPIi Add the
names of Gary peters to me
short list of lefthanded pitchers
who have tamed Baltimore Oriole
batters this season.
Peters, a 26-year-old who
still classified as a rookie despite
three trips to the majors, shut
out the Orioles on one hit Mon
day night Robin Roberts' sharp!
single to cenlerfield in the third
inning.
Peters was the fifth lefthander
to beat the Orioles out of the 25'
who have tried this season
Others were Whitey Ford, Jim
Kaat. Marshall Bridges and Steve
Hamilton. Only two lefthanders
have gone the distance against
the Orioles.
I'm one player who's in favor
of winter ball," Peters said alter
the game. "I believe the reason
I haven't been able to stay up
with the. Sox before was because
my last ball just wasn t last
enough."
Peters said he cured that fault
during the past Vintcr in Puerto,
Rico.
I went down there with the'
notion to rear back and throw
hard. That's what I've been doing
this season, which, so lar, is my
best. Peters said.
"This was easily mv best came
in the majors," he said. Peters
threw a no-hitter with the Indi
anapolis Indians, a White Sox
farm team, in 19(10, and a one-
hitter with the same club against
Louisville last season.
Peters confined his pitches to
fast balls and sliders, rarely toss
ing a curve at the Orioles.
