Married Life Should

Dear Ann Landers: I was
deeply disappointed in your ad

because her

I I I live times a
MAawJ week "with a
comehither look in his eye."
The woman insisted that she
loves her husband very much,
but she complained that 12:30
p.m. is no time for romance
hen three kids are home f o r
lunch, a laundress Is in the base
ment, the doorbell is ringing
and she is trying to get to a
2 p.m. church guild meeting.
1 thought for sure you'd clob
ber the selfish wench for not do
ing her duty. Instead you advised
her to tell her husband she mar
ried him for better or for worse
"but not for lunch."
Why do you so freely buy the
notion that a husband should be
looked upon with scorn and con
tempt just because he is healthy
and normal?
An overwhelming majority of
American wives are so thorough
ly involved with their tea par
ties, card playing, and county
club Martini drinking that they
are too darned pooped to satisfy
the basic emotional needs of their
husbands. No wonder the divorce
rale is zooming.
A smart wife should congratu
late herself for being desirable
and needed. She should be thrilled
that her husband wants to come
homo for lunch. You failed every
red-blooded American male m
your audience when you gave
that lousy answer. BITTERLY
DISAPPOINTED
Dear Bitterly: Apparently I
disappointed a substantial number
of red blooded American fr
males, too. Dozens of wives wrote
to say they'd be thrilled If their
husbands came home for lunch.
One woman wrote, "I wish mv
old man would appear for din
ner. I never know where lie is
from one day to the next."
A reader In Chattanooga
moaned, "Docs the guy live in
Tennessee? If he does please
send him to my house for lunch.
I'm a good cook and I'd he happy
to sec him
I'm sorry to have let so many

It Is absurd and animalistic to
suggest that a wife should be on
24-hour call like ar inhalator
squad ready for romance at the
drop of a hint.
Married love is not a "duty
nor is it an accommodation. II
the relationship is meaningful. It's
a mutually rewarding and fulfill
ing experience. Perhaps there
would be fewer divorces If
more men were perceptive enough
to consider a woman's emotion
al needs and attached as much
importance to those needs as they
attach to their own physical
emotional drives.
Dear Ann Landers: Well, here
It is July and my husband and I
are stone broke. Why? Because
'une is the month we get knocked
over the head with wedding an
nouncements; high school and col
lege graduation announcements,
Bar Mitzvahs and what have
you. July is the month we have
to pay for all the gifts we bought
in June.
Why do people send announce
ments to friends and relatives
who live thousands of miles
away? Yes, we know Suzy
getting married and Howard is
graduating. But we can't be
there, so why don't they leave
us alone?
Please print this loiter as a

Judge Makes
Justice
More Speedy
SAN FRANCISCO (UPI)-"You
may not go along with me," the
judge said to the attorney, "but
I believe it would be a waste of
time and money to go to trial.
don't see how a jury could come
in with a verdict for you."
The speaker was Andrew J.
Eyman, presiding judge of the
San Francisco Municipal Court.
It was a pre-trial hearing of a
minor auto damage suit, a pro-
cedure Eyman instituted . 18
months ago as a means of speed
ing the course of justice.
So far, it's had spectacular re
sults.
In January. 1962, the court had
such a backlog of cases that it
took 14 months for one to come
to trial.
Costs Money
"And then in many cases there
would be a settlement after only
a tew witnesses were called,
Eyman said. "This cost a lot of i
money in jury fees and the costs'
of running a court."
he pre-trial hearing is used in
California superior courts. But it
had not been tried in municipal
courts, which handle damage
suits up to $5,000.
Lyman began bringing oppos
ing counsel before him in ad
vance of trial for some "Dutch
uncle" talk. He listens to a brief
outline of their cases, offers
candid opinion of their merits and
tries to coax them to settle out
of court.
In the first year of the experi
ment, Eyman spilled 2fi5 cases
This year he's been averaginp
some 30 a month.
By unclogging the court calen
dar, the time it takes for a case
to come to trial has been cut in
half, to about seven months.
Gives Lawyer Scoop
In the aforementioned case, Ey
man told the attorney for the
plaintiff, victim of a "fender
bender" type accident, that a
two-day jury trial would cost the
public about $350.
"It's a case of what's good
business." the judge said. "How
about settling for $325? This would
give you a $50 fee. with i
risk of a trial that probably w
end up w ith you getting nothing."
Opposing counsel said "it's oka
by me." and the attorney for the
plaintiff agreed to take it up with
his client.
"They'll settle," the judge re
marked out of court later. "I can
(always tell."

Making Organ Peal Shows
Fast Growing Interest
CHICAGO (UPD - Making an
organ peal appeals to an esti-
esimated 2.6 million Americans
these days.
The number will swell by 250,-
000 this year with about 70 per
cent of the new players coming
from the 30 to 55-year age brack
et, reports the Wurlitzcr Co.
The growth of amateur organ
ists stems from interest in music,
increasing leisure time and versa
tile new instruments.
Dee Fisher, concert artist and
official organist of Disneyland,
told how to insure that the con
sumer gels a good instrument
when he goes shopping.
"Personal preference in tone is
the most important factor," he
said. Organ tone is not standard
ized as is the sound of a trom
bone, piano or other single in
struments. Rather, they pro
duce and combine the sounds of
many instruments.
Fisher suggests listening to var
ious organs and selecting the tone
you prefer. Then make five ob
jective checks:
The keyboards. Make sure
there are two 44-note keyboards
with inclined and overhanging
keys. The incline and overhang
of the top keyboard promotes a
relaxed hand position and permits
bridging or playing notes on two
keyboards with one hand.

Organ tone. All four families
of organ tone should be accurate
ly represented flute, string, reed
ior bass I and diapason.
Volume. Depress all of the
tabs and play a chord while de
pressing the expression pedal to
full volume. Inadequate sound sys
tern will distort tones.
Percussion. Sustain percussion
permits creating unusual effects
such as harp, Hawaiian guilar,
bells, and other instrumental
sounds.
Pedal voices. Pedal sustain
provides a continuous flow of tone
when moving from one pedal to
the next, and permits creating
special pedal effects such as the
bounce" of the string bass.

Beef On
PHOENIX, Ariz. (UPD - Fron

the Ihought, but modern man is
now deodorizing beef on the

An air borne pioneer in cow de

The former jet fighter pilot

completely safe and non-toxic to
cattle.
Tend To Skitter
Generally, Wolfe said, the bo
vincs tend to skitter at the pres
ence of the whirly-bird, but he's
managed to spray cattle pens
holding as many as 50.000 head.
Wolfe said the application ol
about 10 gallons of GS17 and wa
ter solution per acre deodorizes
and masks the offensive smells.
Effectiveness of the system is
demonstrated by the fact that
"all customers have eniered into
a program to keep me coming
back." he said.
Applications have been effective
for 14 days and more, Wolfe
said. Regular applications of the
