    Wiretapping
Gets Okay
By Senators
WASHINGTON (UPD Mem-i
hers of the Senate Judiciary Cora
mittee said today they agreed
with Atty. Gen. Robert F. Ken
nedy that new wiretapping legis
lation is needed to fight increas
ing Communist espionage activi-ties.
; But one, Sen. Kenneth B. Keat-i
;)ng, R-N.Y., warned that Con
gress was not likely to accept
he administration's bill until
i Kennedy backed down from his
position that no court order be
required for tapping telephone
lines of spy suspects.
Proponents of the bill said
there was little likelihood Con
gress would take quick action on
wiretap legislation of any kind.
Both the Senate and House .'u-
diciary Committees are preoccu
pied with top priority civil rights
bills.
Essentially, the administration
bill would permit the government
to use information obtained from
wiretaps in court. Under present
law, wiretapping is permitted but
the evidence cannot be used in
court.
Kennedy told a news confer
ence Wednesday the Justice De
partment was "seriously ham-
pered" in anti-espionage activity
by lack of laws to permit use of
wiretap information as evidence.
The bill also would establish for
the first time rigid restrictions on
wiretapping. Authorities would
have to obtain a court order be
fore tapping lines In the investi
gation of most federal crimes.

Treated For Stab Wounds
Balboa discovered the Pacific
Ocean in 1313, but Magellan
crossed and named it in 1520.
A Klamath Falls Indian was
treated and released hy Klamath
Valley Hospital after he received
stab wounds in the shoulder and
face allegedly inflicted by his
estranged wife.
William C. Bluecloud. who gave
his address as the Marion Apart
ments, called city police from
the Waldorf Cafe at 8:45 p.m
and said his former wife, Maxine
19. Cozy Hotel, cut him while
they were talking in an alley in
back of Vern s Tavern.
Bluecloud told police he would
sign a complaint against Mrs.
Bluecloud, but apparently a com
plaint hadn't been signed as of
Tuesday morning.
In relating the details of the
incident, the victim told police
he met his estranged wile in
Vei n's and they went outside (or
"friendly talk." .
He said he told his wife he
,was going to, ride in the rodeo
and she said he wasn't going to.
Then, Bluecloud said, she started
stabbing him. "I tried to be friend-
!ly, but she kept on trying tul
stab me," he said.
Another woman who apparent
ly witnessed the stabbing grabbed
Mrs. Bluecloud and Bluecloud,
0DAY1
who apparently was tired of be
ing friendly, went to the Wal
dorf to call police.
Police have the name and ad
dress of the witness and will try
to contact her. She left the scene
before police arrived Monday
night.
Bluecloud received wounds in
the shoulder, nose and neck, but
was released shortly after treat
ment at the hospital.
City police arc holding Mrs.
Bluecloud on charges of drunk
and disorderly conduct after she
became abusive during question
ing by police.
