the Herald and News learned
Wednesday.
District Judge Robert B. Kerr
said that a number of truckers had
been fined for overloads during
the period but only one of them
was fined at a rate higher than
specified on the new schedule.
The old fine list became void
May 16 when it was superceded
I by House Bill 1292. The new law
I cuts fines for log overloads about
Parents' .half in most rases exceot for
those at the upper limits of the
new schedule which are greater
than the old penalties.
In the instance cited by Judge
Kerr, the teamster was fined :
$25 when under the new schedule .

funded to the party who paid the
fine, the judge said.
The local district court and
most similar courts throughout
the state had been using the old
schedule since May 16. due to an
oversight at the stale govern
ment level. On that date the bill
became law when it was signed
by Gov. Mark Hatfield, but no
one bothered to inform the dis
trict judges throughout the state.
The bill contained an emergency
clause which put it into immedi
ate' effect when signed by t h c
governor.
