Mount Shasta, Dunsmuir Decline To Accept Airport Offer

Marconi told Mount Shasta City
Council members that his com
mittee, at a meeting with the
Dunsmuir City Council, had de
cided neither city wanted Mott
Airport under the present tax situ
ation. Siskiyou County is ready to
deed the airport to the cities joint
ly. Marconi went on to say thai
$68 had been the income from the
airport last year, with a $2501)
gas tax refund, but it is not guar
anteed and could be as low as
$1900. Councilman Dave McDan
iel was appointed to research laws
as to the possibility of keeping
the airport off the tax roll. Tax
rates will be set in July and a
report given before that time.
In other business, the council
was advised that $1,608.74 was
needed to add to the $350 already
lasted in court to defray expenses
of court costs in the recent Pal
mer Road water-sewer line court
battle. Ross Biglcr, attorney for
the Palmer Road people, submit
ted a staement for $1,044.70. and
L. N. Lorenzen. city attorney,
turned his in for $914.04. Money
was obtained from appropriations
not already used and ordered
paid.
Resolutions withdrawing Hercu
les, Henncssy, and N'eedcls an
nexes from Mount Shasta fire dis
trict were adopted, and a report
on group insurance bids for city
employes was tabled (or further
study. Two resolutions which ap
pointed Eugene Lensing as pound
master at a $360 monthly salary
and Joseph Herzog as radio dis
patcher at $200 a month, were ap
proved. A petition by Richard Modoio
requesting Vista Blanca annexa
tion was read, and a protest hear
ing was set for July 26 at 8 p.m.
in the Mount Shasta city hall.
The first reading of an ordinance
regarding 15-minule parking in the
post oiiice vicinity on the west
side of Chestnut Street was also
beard.
At least four hydrants at $300
each will be needed for the Rock-
fellow annex water line, accord
ing to Charles Echols, supervisor
of public works, to give the resi
dents adequate fire protection and
reduce their insurance rates. He
alsn stated that all South Mount
Shasta home owners, so desiring,
should be connected to the new
sewer line by next week.
The 'council was advised bv
Mayor Marconi that the city of
Mount Shasta had been ordered by
the court to refund $359 to tw St.
Germaine Foundation for taxes
collected on what the foundation
claimed in a winning court action
was levied on tax exempt proper
ty. .
