WASHINGTON (UPI) The
House Armed Services Committee
today unanimously approved a
major revamping of the to-called
six-month military training pro
gram and extended the maximum
service to 18 months.
The legislation, a result of a
lengthy inquiry into manpower
problems during the call-up of
reservists in the Berlin crisis, also
would make the program porman
cnt. The present law expires
Aug. 1.
As it now stands, such trainees
now serve from four to six months
active duty before returning
home to their reserve units.
Under the proposed new pro
gram, they could be kept on ac
tive duty lor up to 18 months to
learn more difficult military
skills.

As Car Rolls
A 15-year-old Klamath Falls
youth received a leg and possible
hip injury when he tried to jump
into his rolling car after he and
a friend started pushing the vehi
cle down a Darrow Street hill.
Rodger D. Shumate, 2310 Dar
row, is in satistactory condition
at Klamath Valley Hospital, ac
cording to reports.
The youth was not able to get
into his vehicle and it received
moderate damage when it
crashed into a fence at 2422 Dar
row, causing only minor damage
lo the fence.
Shumate's leg got caught in
the car door and he was jerked to
the pavement by the car's mo
mentum, according to the police
report. He was given first aid byi
Felix Peace and taken to Klam
ath Valley by Peace Ambulance. lin 14!I7.

ads, pies, cakes, watermelons
and other dishes.

crowned by the 1962 queen, Lor
na Rcntle, at the fairgrounds on
July 4. The senior queen will be
crowned by the 1962 senior queen
during the June 23 tryouts at the
fairgrounds.
