you find yourself getting drowsy
while driving in slow, heavy traf
fic, you're probably afflicted with
more than just boredom.
You are probably getting an
overdose of exhaust fumes, ac
cording to the National Automo
bile Club. Tests have shown that
a driver following another car
closely in heavy traffic can inhale
enough carbon monoxide from the
car ahead to become distinctly
drowsy, the club said.

War II, ' 10 young men soon to
win the name "whiz kids" swept
into the Ford Motor Co. and put
their ideas to work.
The survivors now are middle
aged, but their ideas still are
working and they still are whiz
zing. Of the original group, four now
are with Ford, including com
pany president Arjay R. Miller.
One is dead. Four have gone into
other businesses, and one Robert
S. McNamara is President Ken
nedy's secretary of defense.
It began in 1946 when four
young officers of the Air Corps'
Statistical Control Office in the
Defense Department debated what
they would do in civilian life. They
agreed that their experience in
developing the statistical control
unit had better armed them (or
a career in the business world
than anything they had done be
fore the war.
The original group consisted of
Col. Charles B. (Tex I Thornton,
head of the Statistical Control Of
fice, F.C. (Jack) Reith, Ben D
Mills and George Moore. When
the final 10-man team was as
sembled it included McNamara,
Arjay Miller, James 0. Wright,
J. Edward Lundy, Charles E.
Bosworth and W.R. Anderson.
"We had to discuss the terms of
the proposition with all the mem
bers of the group several times,"
said Mills.
Moore quit in 1947, ran a string
of Ford and Lincoln - Mercury
dealerships and more recently be
came board chairman of Informa
tion for Industries, Inc., Washing
ton.
Thornton dropped out in 1948.
He went on to become a vice
president at Hughes Aircraft and
then purchased Litton Industries, i where he now serves as president
a fast growing electronic firm) and board chairman.

What To Do With Pups
WASHLNGTON UP1 - Mrs.
acqueline Kennedy hasn't de
cided what to do with her dog
Pushinka's four new puppies, her
press secretary, Pamela Tur
nure, said today.
The brown puppies two male
and two females were born last
Friday to Pushinka. a gift from
Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev.
Pushinka and her pups have
been at the White House for two
days but the two Kennedy chil
dren, five-year-old Caroline and
two-year old John Junior, have
not seen them. The children were
still at Camp David, the presi
dential retreat near Thurmond,
Md., w here they spent the week
end. Miss Turnure was asked today
whether the puppies would be
given away. She replied: "Mrs.
Kennedy hasn't decided what to
do with them."
Counting Caroline's Welsh ter
rier, Charlie, and the First
Lady's police dog, Clipper, there
are now seven dogs at the White
House.
