BANTAMS PLACE IN NATIONALS This group of
bantam bowlers recently placed 58th in the National
Mailoqraphic Tournament with a seriei of 1593. They
are, from loft to right, Billy Rose, Mike Schooler, Wayne
Begg, Gene Cyros and Dennis York. The Mailographie
Tournament had bowlers from all over the nation and
Klamath's junior bowlers made a fine showing.

He went the five-inning route for
Merrill In giving up only three
hits for the win. He whiffed nine
in the process and walked three.
He bested Elk Kim Badley
in the pitching duel. Badley al
lowed five hits in the four frames
he worked.
The Elks took a 1-0 lead in
their half of the first on a walk
and a double by Ted DeVore.
Merrill came right back to take
the lead with two runs in their
half of the inning. Buss Smith
reached first on an error and
came home on Mike McKoen's
double. He scored on Larry
Kurtz single.
The Merrill crew wrapped the
game up with a four-run outburst
in the fourth which included three
hits and four walks. McKoen
North and Mike Tedrick all sin
gled in that frame.
Mnyina Heights also had to ral
ly for its win. They tallied three
runs in the third for a 4-3 lead
and wrapped the game up in the

Despite First Triple Play Of The Year

ath Hawks got whitewashed by the
Cheney Studs Wednesday night,
but it was the Hawks th a t
turned in the sparkling play of
the night, the first triple play of
tiie season.
The rugged Cheney Studs axed
the Hawks. 10-0. behind the hurl
ing of Larry Pepper who best
ed starter Steve Young. Pepper
hurled a masterful one-hit game
at the Hawks, the only hit com
ing off the bat of Tom Schiff in

Rutherford and G. Jones led the
winners with a pair of singles
each. The losers had all the big
hits. Kellow and Coon each had
doubles while Warren slammed a
triple. Kellow also had a single
and Coon had a pair of singles to
go w ith the double. Warren added
a single.
Simonsen led Local Loan with
four singles. Franklin had a dou
ble and two triples while Fan
ning had a triple and double and
Warren hit a double and single.
Murphy had two singles for Lis
ton and Hall a double.

The Studs simply had too much
batting power for the Hawks, led
by Darryl Summerfield's two-run
homer. Neil Rivenburg had a pair
of hits as did Ellis and Willie
Jones.
The Studs racked up two runs
in the second on a pair of errors
which put runners on first and
second. Jones' single scored Don
Twedcll and Ellis walked home
when the bags were filled and a
walk was issued to Rivenburg.
The big inning for the Studs was
the fourth. Pepper led off with a
walk and Mike Glines walked right
behind him. Rivenburg singled to
score Pepper. Lou Aivarcz was
safe on a Hawk error w hich load
ed the bags and Summerfield got
an RBI on a walk. Twedell struck
out but Ellis doubled to chase
home two more runs. He scored
on an error.
The final two runs came in the I
tmn inning, w ilh two away Alva
rez singled and walked across just
ahead of Summerfield who
slammed a homer.
The triple play was pulled off
by tlie Hawks in the final inn
ing. With the bases loaded Stroh
hit a line drive to Mike Spiker at
second. He caught the ball,
stepped on second for the second
out and tossed to first to com
plete the third out and the triple
play. All runners had been caught
off by the catch and had been
running. The triple play was the
first in this area in some time.

Track Plans

Connolly, world record holder in
the hammer throw, was making
plans today to leave temporarily
his teaching job in Finland and
compete in the national Amateur
Athletic I'nion lAAUi meet in St.
Louis June 21-22.
Connolly's plans to compete in
the St. Louis meet in order to
qualify for the t'nited States-Russia
track meet this summer were
disclosed Wednesday in a trans
oceanic telephone call to Don W in
ton, president of the Pasadena
Alhlotic Association.
Vinton said Connolly planned to
compete June 25 in St. Louis, and
again June 54 in the international
track meet in Frankfurt, Germain.
