House Tells Secretary
To Negotiate Intertie

Meanwhile, a California private
power official appeared before an

Udall of seeking to dictate at the

under which private utilities
might build transmission lines be

The reclamation subcommittee
amended the Senate - passed Pa
cific Northwest Power preference
bill to direct Udall to "exhaust
every possible effort" to reach
agreement on non - federal pro
posals to build the lines to carry

non-federal proposals for building
the long-range transmission lines,
was made by Fred Oldendor.' Jr.,
president of the California Elec
tric Power Co., in testimony be
fore the House Public Works Ap
propriations subcommittee.
Oldcndorf and three other offi
cials of firms making up the Cal
ifornia Power Pool appeared Jn
opposition to an Interior Depart
ment budget request of $25 5 mil
lion to begin construction of two
extra - high voltage transmission
lines between the Pacific North
west and California.
Oldcndorf questioned whether
Udall was fair in asking for the
appropriation to strengthen the
department's hand in negotiations
with private power companies for
construction of all or part of the
intertie.
"He wants to put a loaded gun
at the utilities' heads so that he
can dictate, not negotiate, terms
that are acceptable to him," Old
endorf said. "This is not, and nev
er should be, the traditional way
of settling differences in this
country."
The Interior Department Is
seeking to build a power line
from Columbia River dams to the
Oregon- California border, where
it would tie into a line being built
by Pacific Gas & Electric Co. and
the Pacific Power and Light Co.
of Portland.

in Mount Shasta City Park. Mem
bers and families are invited and

or cold dish as well as their

are scheduled for this weekend.
Saturday and Sunday, June 13-
16 at the Klamath Yacht Club.
The two events will open the
1963 boating season for water
enthusiasts.
The Commodores Ball honor

cottons and sun dresses for the
women, sports clothes for the
men.
The social hour will start at
8 p.m. followed by dancing to
live music at 9:30. Snacks will
be served all evening and "fun
will be the keynote," of the eve
ning. Members are urged to take
guests. There will be no charge.
Theme of decorations will be
boating. j
Sunday's program will begin
promptly at 9 a.m. with a break
fast of hot cakes, home cured
ham and coffee, (or a nominal
charge for adults and children.
Serving will continue until 10:30
Flag officers and committee
members will meet at 11 a.m.
followed by boat inspection.
The flag raising ceremony by
Commodore Clif Evans at 1 p.m.,
the salute parade of all boats
around the south end of the lake
and a demonstration of the "El
Toro" sail boats in the marina
are on the afternoon agenda. The
sail boat demonstration will be
by a club member.
Hot dogs, hamburgers, chili and
other snack foods will be avail
able at the club house all day.
Dinner will be served at the club
Sundav evening if reservations
are made before noon that day.
