opened Wednesday afternoon
with the 4-H horsemanship and
showmanship classes. The (how

climaxed by the AKuras Rotary
Club barbecue and Junior Live
stock fat stock sale.

For June 9
DORRIS Plans have been
completed for the fifth annual
barbecue sponsored by the Dor
ris Lions Club, according to John
O. Hines, president. He said 750
pounds of prune beef have been
donated by John Barsons of Bed
Bock.
The barbecue, billed as an "all
von can eat" affair. Is scheduled
June 9 at the Dorris City
Park. Beginning at 1 p.m., the
cost will be S 1 per person.
A full afternoon of activities
has been programmed, Including
an exhibition square dance by
grade school students and a
horseshoe pitching contest. Tro
phies will be awarded to the win
ners of both events.
At 3 p.m. there will be a base
ball game featuring the Butte
Valley Babe Ruth team against
the Klamath Falls Pacific. Supply
team. The barbecue wHl also of
fer live music and complete park
facilities for children.
Last year the affair drew
more than 700 people, and Hines
said an even larger attendance
is expected this year.

robin showmanship trophy and
will also arrange for the ad

Aaron Stockton of the Orland
Auction Yards will auction the
30 steers, 50 lambs, and 20 hogs
at the Friday evening sale.

Jay Smith and George Beckman.
. A request by Bob Dewey, chair
man of the commission, for a
planning budget of 12,250 for 1963
M was deferred by the council.
This figure exceeds estimated
available funds for planning pur
poses by $704, Elizabeth Cavin,
city clerk, told the council.

Dewey mentioned the possibility
ol a two mill planning tax to
cover commission needs when
the tax rate is set later in the
summer.
The council decided against fur
ther upgrading of the city street
light system as too costly and
also deferred approval of a black
top surface for the ballpark
parking lot. These were two rec
ommendations made by the stu
dent government council. The
blacktop project would cost an es
timated $1,200, and it may be un
dertaken if recreation district
funds can help offset the cost,
Councilman Claude Slade said.
City Attorney Howard Jones stat
ed endorsement was sought from
the council on Assembly Bill No.
1491 which would enable general
law cities to levy motel occupan
cy taxes. The council members
present, Claude Slade, Floyd
Creason, and David McClintock,
opposed the measure as an an
noyance and nuisance.

200,000 cookies. Each young.'.trr
also received a balloon.

those who used their keys to the
treasure chest opening.

State Hospital
Escapee Found
An evapee from the Orecon
Stat Hospital in Salem walked
into the Klamath Falls Police Sta
lion about 6 p m. Tuesday and
told the desk sergeant in rhargo
he as voluntarily turning him
self in to authorities.

the previous evening because he
wanted to go home, tie said, how.
