Malin Cub Scout Pack Holds Meet
MAUN A Cub Stout pack
meeting was held May 29
the Malin Community Hall.- The
new Cub Master, Larry Barbour,
presented a denner stripe to Dell
Azevcdo and an assistant denner
striDe to Steven Heckenburg.
Barbour also presented Cub
Scout cards for this year to all
members, and the Scout Master,
George Pnppc, presented the Boy
Scout cards to his troop.
The Pine Wood Derby Race was
the entertainment for the eve
ning, with the Boy Scouts invited
to participate. Douglas Johnson
won first place in the thrce-ounce
division for Cub Scouts; Davie
Cacka in the four-ounce division;
and Richard Klzncr in the five
ounce division.
Robert Pappe won first place in
ihe Boy Scout race, with Patrick
Pappe, second, and Bruce Victor
in, third.
Flowers were presented to Mr.
and Mrs. Carl itainus for their
work with the groups for the past
year. Rajnus was last year s
cub master.
Refreshments were served by
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Barbour and
Mr. and Mrs. George Papc.

Lake Road
To Be Open
On June 5
Opening of the North Entrance!
road to Crater Lake National
Park has been announced for June
5 at 9 a.m. by Superintendent W.
Ward Yeager. This road connects
with State Highway 230, which
Ics-'t if:!': I'.S. Highway it?.
Visitors will then be able
travel through the park alone
the north-south route in either
direction, entering or 'exiting by
way of,. the West or South en
trances. The North Entrance sta
lion will not be manned for some
time yet, and motorists are ad
vised to purchase permits at the
Annie Spring entrance station
when leaving the park.
Only 28 inches of snow at park
headquarters at the present time,
compared to a 30-year average of
107 inches in depth, is making pos
sible this second earliest opening
recorded for the North Entrance
road.
Also becoming available for
travel will be 6.2 miles of the
western . portion of Kim Drive,
from Him Village to north junc
tion. Motorists arc advised to use
extreme caution in traveling the
Rim Drive because the road is
quite narrow in places.
Facilities operated by the park
concessioner, Crater Lake Lodge,
Inc., are scheduled for opening
on June IS. This includes the
store, cabins, cafeteria, and lodge
at Rim Village, and transporta
tion service to and from Mcdford
and Klamath Falls. Launch trips
on Crater Lake will also begin
about June 15, and conducted
tours around the lake on Rim
Drive will commence about July
1. depending on progress of open
ing the road. The gasoline service
station opened May 30.
Limited campsites arc available
in Mazama Campground, although
snow is still abundant throughout
the area.
