Zealandcr Peter Snell, in analyz
ing his easy victory Friday night
in the half mile, remarked today
that American Jim Beatty "has
nothing to lose" if the pair meet
next week in the celebrated mile
event.
"If he bears me," said Snell,
"wo will bo back where we start
ed before Modesto."
The New Zealandcr easily won
the half-mile last night in the
Southern Pacific Amateur Athlet
ic Union (SPAAU) meet held at
Occidental College. He was
clocked in 1:48.0, well over his
record of 1:45.1.
Beatty chalked up an equally
easy triumph in the mile with a
time of 4:00.8. He set h i s own
pace and was timed in 1:58.8 for
the half mile, but drew away in
tho third lap to finish a full six
seconds ahead of second place Le-
roy Neal of Occidental.
- Despite the absence of strong
competition for either man, Snell
said he "was very satisfied. I
didn't intend to go out after my
own record, although the time
was lower than you people said I
was going to run.
Snell and Beatty arc expected
to compete in the mile at the
Compton Relays June 7. Snell ran
a blistering 3:54.9 at the Modcs-
to Relays last weekend, beating
Bcntty, who placed third.

In Cincinnati the other night,
two runners, iBilly ODell and
Jose Pagan were thrown out at
home plate on a double by rookie

American League victories with

Wynn is expected to come to

The American League's winning-

special election will bo held in the Sub
urban Rural Flrt Protection Oistrict of
Klamath County, Oregon from 2:00 p m.
to 1:00 p.m., on June 11, 1963, at tht dis
trict's tirt station, 2342 Gettlt Street,
Klamath Fells, Klamath County, Oregon,
tor tht purpose of submitting to the legal
voters of said District the Question of
