PERSEVERANCE The story of how a fine American china was produced is a story
of the determination of one man, Walter Scott Lenox, who, though blind, continued
toward his goal until he realized success. This special service shown recently in a
"Command Performance" at Garcelon's was ordered by President Harry Truman in
1952. The Presidential seal encircled by 48 gold stars is etched in raised gold in the
center of the service plate and on the rim of the dinner plate. The plate's border fea
tures a narrow band of teal green circling a design in etched gold.

Such is the story of Walter Scott
Lenox. From the time he was a
boy in the potteries of Trenton,
lie dreamed of being the master
potter of America. Someday.
somehow he was going to create
an American china of such beau
ty and quality that it could sur
pass the finest from abroad.
Through years of apprentice
ship, that- goal was firmly fixed
in his mind, and at last, in 1689.
lie was ready to start his own
pottery. For years he experiment
ed, produced, rejected, but his
dream of fine American china was
so important to Walter Scott Len
ox, that he persevered.
Even when he was stricken to-1
tally blind, he refused to give up.
And then, one day it happened,
the pottery produced a beautiful.

with a rich, lustrous glaze. It
was the first of its kind ever pro
duced in America and it ex-jup.
celled the finest imported from
abroad.
That china lias been selected
for many years as the official din
ner china (or the White House.
Today, it is famous, loo, through-'
lout all the world. It is seen In
royal palaces, at ambassadors'
tables, famous museums and in
this country's homes. It is a fit
ting tribute to the guiding genius
of the man who would not give

in medium-sued pieces
2 tablespoons polyunsaturat
ed oil
2 large onions, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced i
1 tablespoon paprika I
2 teaspoons salt
pinch cayenne
2 cups water
1 i8-ounoe can lomalo sauce
pound wide noodles
1 cup commercial sour j
cream

and continue browning. Add par
