Soviets Harass Convoy
On East German Highway
BERLIN (UPII-U.S. officials
today wondered whether the Rus
sians had started a new campaign
to harass Army traffic to Berlin
on the highway through Last Germany.
These fears were caused by the
first Russian interference with an
Army convoy in six months.

70 soldiers in 22 trucks and jeeps
for three hours and 45 minutes
with a demand that the soldiers
dismount to be counted.
The Army refused and the con
voy was cleared after a delay of
two hours at the West German
end of the highway and one hour
and 45 minutes at the Berlin end
A belief that the Russians were
up to something was strengthened
by the small size of the convoy
delayed.
The soldiers were returning
from three weeks of field training
in West Germany.

Agung's eruption Thursday soared
lo 103 Monday as reports poured in

fanning out through the disaster
area.
The reports painted a tragic
picture of new death and destruc
tion heaped on this fabled South
Sea island still recovering from
the sacred volcano's deadly er
uption two months ago which kill
ed more than 1.500 persons.
In rapid succession, the volcano
erupted Thursday belching lava
and rock, then roared Into life
again Saturday night triggering an
earthquake that was clearly felt
here, 50 miles away.
The tremor leveled many build
ings in Tjulik and Dahar villages,
northwest of the crater. One per
son was killed under a collapsing
wall. j
Most of the deaths and injuries
were reported in the wake of
Thursday's eruption which sent
searing clouds of pulverized rock
and gases plunging down the vol
cano's slopes.

Nose Bounty Ready
Some $2,200 in bounty money is
available to porcupine hunters
while it lasts, Eva Cook, county
treasurer, reported Tuesday.
The amount is the remaining
part of W.000 w hich became avail
able last March for the payment
of bounties at the rate of 50 cents
per nose. Since March. WOO has
been paid out in bounties.

the hunters will receive a pay
ment request which is payable

ment. The bounty was established on
porcupines some years ago be
cause of the damage the mam
mals cause to timber.

property in the county each year.
Taxpayers who believe their
property was reassessed too high
have the option to call at the
courthouse and discuss the issue
with, first, Caldwell, and if not
satisfied they may appeal to Ibej
County Board of Lqualizalion.
It was such appeals that the!
board has been receiving since
