Call For City Barn Bids
Approved At Mt. Shasta
MOUNT SHASTA At an ad
journed regular meeting April 29,
Mount Snasta City Council passed
a resolution authorizing the city
clerk to advertise for bids on city
property known as the City Barn,
located on Lake Street. A motion
was passed to establish a mini
mum acceptable bid of SfiOOO or
the property and $6000 for the
building.
Prospective bidders must ascer
tain uses for the building and
stipulations as to its use. They
are required to submit 10 per cent
of the bid with their bids. No
protests were heard on the pro
posed sale.
Council was advised by letter
from the California road depart
ment regarding the gas tax senate
bill No. 344 that Mount Shasta
has received $11336 from old funds
and will receive $81 from new
funds and non-matching funds. In
' a letter ftom the Board of Super
visors the council was advised
that $1000 had been alloted to the
city for the maintenance of the
city dump.
Charles Echols, department of
public works, announced a sweep
er had been purchased and deliv
ered for $3800, and the purchase
of a $025 compactor was tabled
for further study. He was author
ized to buy an overhead door for
city storage building at a cost of
."00. A motion carried that the
city purchase a sewer rodder,
trailer, and rods at a cost of
$1200.
Echols was appointed to attend
the bi-annual Institute of Public
Works officials meeting in Salinas
May 5-7. He reported that Bctte
Waring and Elizabeth Parkton had
resigned from city offices, with
ftandra Lewis replacing Miss Park-
ton. Five new signs designating
the route to Mount Shasta Com
munity Hospital have been erect
ed, Echols also stated.
In other matters, a request for
water service from William Can
non. Rockefeller and Jefferson
Streets, was taken under study.
A discussion on additional park
ing spaces in the post office ki
nity revealed that more 15 min
ute spaces should be established.
Police Chief Harold Barnum is
to study the situation and report
at the next council meeting.
Angelo Vanni appeared before
council requesting water service
to a warehouse on South Ream
Street. A check will be made
on it by the city. Vanni offered
to deed his half of the street on
South Ream to the city. An appli
cation for a variance permit from
Dr. Philip Smith was approved.
Beginning May 1, municipal em
ployes will be paid on a semi
monthly basis and a motion
passed establshing $458 monthly
salary for the city clerk. A finan
cial report from Mott Airport was
read. Mayor Gino Marconi and
councilman Dave McDaniel were
named to meet w ith Dunsmuir of
ficials and airport commissioners
regarding the maintenance of the
airport.
Members of Wonderland Seniors
and Soroptimist Club of Mount
Shasta were present to discuss
the possible relocation of the city
library with quarters to house the
senior citizens club. They were
advised to direct a letter to the
county librarian as the council
could not assist them. Two library
sites are available.
In annexation matters, final
readings were made on Hercules.
Hennessy, and Needels annexes
and were adopted.
