A new scholarship in the

dent in the Klamath Union High
School Instrumental Music De
partment has been presented by
Dr. Arthur Compton, a local phy
sician and surceon.

K. Jensen, director of instrumen
tal music, announced.
The award will be given an
nually in May to an outstanding
'instrumental music student reg
istered in any regular KUHS
music class. The award is for one
year only and must be used to
further the advanced instrumental
music study of the winner, who
will be chosen at a public com
etition recital to be held this
year on May 7 at the Mill s
School Auditorium. All phases of
the award will lie administered by
the KUHS music faculty.
Three judges will pick the win
ner of the competition, and their
decision will be final. Neither
Dr. Compton nor the music de
partment will have any voice in
the decision made by the judges.

Police Investigate
Break-in Attempt
The Klamath Falls Police De
partment investigated an attempt
ed breakin at the Vacuum Clean
er Center. 121 South Sixth Street,
and the theft of a car owned by
R. B. Parks, 334 Mesa Street,
sometime between Friday and
.Monday.
A door knob at the vacuum
center was pried off, but a lock
ing bar on the other side of the
door prevented entry by the
would-be thief.
Police failed to Ret any infor
mation from the owner concerning
a suspect. The attempt occurred
late Sunday night or early Mon
day Morning.
The auto theft occurred over
the weekend while Parks was out
of town, city police reported Tues
day.
Parks vehicle is a r.b9 blue
Volkswagen bearing Oregon li
cense number 1P-933.
Police also investigated a two
car accident Monday at 12:20
p.m. at the intersection of Main
and North Third streets.
Both cars received moderate
damage in the crash, but the
drivers escaped injury.
Shirley Noreen Eissell, 34, 515
North Second Street, driver of
one of the cars, was cited for
failing to yield the right of way
to another vehicle.
Her vehicle collided with a car
driven by Terry Bob Alley, 22,
4437 Onyx Avenue, as Alley was
southbound on Main, The Bissell
car was proceeding from Third
Street across the intersection.
