defensive halfback John Symank
and defensive end Bill Quinlan to
the New York Giants in exchange
(or a high draft choice.
The Giants immediately shipped
Quinlan, a six-year veteran, to
the Philadelphia Eagles in ex
change for Gene Gossagc, also a
defensive end.
Of tlic three players involved.
only Quinlan appears in line for
a regular job. The 28-year-old
former Michigan State star was
drafted by the Cleveland Browns
in 1956 and after a year in the
Army played regularly for the
Browns for two seasons. He was
traded to the Packers in 1959 and
was used frequently by Green
Bay.
Svmank was the backup man in
the Green Bay secondary and.
more than likely will be used in
I he same capacity with the Giants.
Ho has played six seasons in the
NFL since being drafted out of
the Univoi sity of Florida by the
Packers in 1957.
Gossagc, the Eagles' 28th draft
choice in 1958. joined Philadelphia
for the I960 season after being
graduated from Northwestern and
saw fairly regular duty. He was
used as an oifensive guard in
lo and 1961 and then was
switched to defensive end last
season.

season with a one on belt in the
second and then contributed two
more hits.
Carlos Bernier and Dick Simp
son also hit homers for Hawaii,
while Deron Johnson crashed one
for the Pads.
Fred Newman needed help in
the ninth, but got the win.
All ten teams return to action
tonight.

the only thing wrong with the
conversation was that Mr. Bur.
nett had put the wrong interpre
tation on it.
Bolton said Butts told him that
he might have "interpreted the
conversation the same way had
he been Burnett.

Senators of the Northwest League
plan to score a run of their own.
In the meantime, they don't mind
accepting the unearned variety.
They got two of them Thursday
ni'iht, good for a 2-1 decision over
Eugene and a 2 0 slate to lead
the league.
Yakima got even with Tri-Cily
with a 15-4 bombing and Lewis
ton took Wcnalchee 8-1 in other
games.
Salem now has scored only six
runs in its first two games and
all of them have been unearned.
Thursday night pitcher Denny
Hagcn walked in the winning run
in the seventh when his only base
on halls of the game sent in Rollie
Petranovich with the deciding
marker.
Yakima settled the issue pronto
with 10 runs in the first three in
nings against Tri-City. Richard
Anderson led the Yakima attack
with a three-run homer in the
i-ever.th. He also doubled in an
other run.
Lewiston pushed over two runs
in the seventh to break a 1-1 tie
and went on to down Wenatchee.
A walk, two hit hatters, a run-
scoring single by Al Lewis and a
walk to Hoss Rowlin with the
bases loaded did the damage.
Just to make sure, -4he Broncs
added four more in the eighth
and one in the ninth.
