Ceremonies
A day-long program of events of
Sunday, April 21, preceded by
dance on Saturday evenim
marked the official dedication of
the new Knights of Columbus Hall
by members of Mt. McLoughlin
Council 2255.
The new hall, the latest in mod
eni accommodations, is located on
the second floor of the Evan
Building. The job of remodeling
done mostly by members, ha;
been a steady project beginning in
November of last year. Finishing
touches in the near future will pro
vide Klamath Falls with attractive
and convenient quarters for ban
quets and meetings, available
to all local clubs and organiza
lions by reservation.
The festivities of the dedication
began Saturday evening with
dance for which John Novak and
Regis Andrieu made arrange
ments. The Dancemasters played
for dancing. Decorations were in
green and yellow with crepe pa
per streamers from mid-ceiling to
walls where bunches of balloons
were tied.
The guests were seated at cabaret-style
tables in the large lodge
hall, which is designed to seat
225 for banquets and presently
displays charters of all men's and
women's organizations affiliated
with the Knights of Columbus,
The Sunday program included
Mass and group communion at 8
a.m. at Sacred Heart Church for
members and the new initiates,
followed by a breakfast at the
Winema Hotel.
Later, at II a.m.. 22 candidates
from Klamath Falls and six from
Lakevicw were initiated into
the local chapter.
Approximately 250 persons as
sembled in the new hall at 6 p.m.
for cocktails before the formal
dedication banquet which was pre
pared by members.
Guest speaker was Edward J.
Bell of Slayton, a past state deiv
uty and currently state secretary

Barney Cavanaugh served
loastmastcr and George Andrieu
gave the welcoming address.
Organ selections were played
during the evening by Eddie But
ler.
A special honor was bestowed on
75-year-old William A. Bishop, who
has been a member for 35 years
He was presented a life member
ship by Otto Smith.
Ml. Loughlin Council 2255
was instituted in June, 1921, with
46 charter members, 36 new mem
bers and 10 by transfer. The late
F. Maouire was elected the
first grand knight.
One charter member remains,
E. M. (Bert) Igl who now re
sines in aan jrancisco.
The late Mike Lavenik, first
deputy grand knitit, was the
only charter member who had
lived his entire membership in
Klamath Falls. He also was a life
member.
During the years. Mt. McLough
lin Council has held meetings in
several different lodge halls and
members' homes.
The present membership,
eluding Sunday s initiates, now
numbers about 325.
One meeting room of the new
hall is designated for the 4th De
gree Knights of Columbus, which
was established in February 1944
by 20 members of the local coun
cil.. This was the second general
assembly east of the Cascades in
Oregon and south of Eugene. Otto
Smith was elected the first
faithful navigator.
Their membership is nearing
the 100 mark.
George Andrieu serves this year
as grand knight of Mt. McLough
lin 3rd Degree Knights of Colum
bus and Frank Foster is faithful
navigator of the 4th Degree KC.
Rebekahs Host Dinner.
On Thursday evening, April 18,
the Odd Fellows of Klamath Lodge
No. 137 were honored guests at
a dinner given by Prosperity Re
bckah Lodge No. 104.
The tables were lovely in spring
decor with assorted flowers
swan and basket vases and tall
complementary tapers.
The noble grand, Charlette An
dcrson, shared honors by being
surprised with a beautifully dec
orated birthday cake and a gift
from her officers.
Following the dinner, regular!
lodge was opened by Charlette An
dcrson.
Joyce Mills, past noble grand
and her daughter, Georgia Mills,
were introduced and welcomed as
new members by transfer.
The Rebekah Odd Fellows scat-i
ed as honored officers wcrcj
Merle Jackson, noble grand of
1.17 as left supporter to the noble
grand; Paul Hanna, vice grand
led supporter In the vice grand;
Herbert Munsell. and Lewis Kan-,
dra, right and left supporters to:
the chapiain, and Frank McCor
nack and Edgar Hoffman, right
and left supporters to the junior
past noble grand.
Details lor the spaghetti dinner;
to be held April 27 were com
pleted. For the affair, each brancli
of the order will sponsor a booth
such as lish pond, bazaar, plant
and fertilizer booth and a cake
walk. Proceeds of the event will
be used to pay expenses of Cin
dy Harless, delegate to the Unit
ed Nations Pilgrimage.
Date of the district convention in
Klamath Falls has been set for
June 18 by Barta Baaley. president-elect
of the Rebekah Assem
bly of Oregon. Prosperity will be
the hostess lodge.
Rctha Kirby was presented her
seal of perfection on the unwritten
work by Olive Hanna. district
deputy president.
During a recess, (xld Fellows,
who are not Rebekahs. were in
vited into the lodge room for the
program.
A mock fashion show was pre
sented with Edith Wiard, Vesta
Stiles and Rctha Kiroy receiving
prizes for their creations. A hu
morous reading was presented by
Louctta Schortgen.
All Odd Fellows were escorted to
the center of the floor to be wel
corned by tile noble grand. Each
was presented an Easier basket
and was crowned with a comic
hat,
The hall was decorated with
Easter bunnies, lilies, a deco
rated egg-tree, flowers and multi
colored balloons.
A Mother's Day program is
planned for the next meeting on
May 2.

The Eagles Auxiliary will meet
on Friday evening, April 26. at 8
p.m. in the Eagles Hall. Madam
President Becky Campbell urges
all members to attend this im
portant meeting.

will attend a zone convention
April 27 and 28 in Prinevillc.
