Then he leads dummy's jack o
clubs and when the ten spot drons
the rest of dummy's club suit is
good and South makes the hand
in spite of bad break in diamonds.

Assassination Plot Broken
PARIS (UPI) - A new plot to
assassinate President Charles dc
Gaulle may have been smashed
with the arrest in a gun battle of
a leading Secret Army Organiza
tion terrorist already under sen
tence of death for an August, l'Jfi2,
assassination attempt, police
sources said Friday.
Two policemen patrolling the
area around the historic Pantheon
on the Paris Left Bank Thursday
night shot and killed one Secret
Army Organization terrorist and
wounded and captured a second
when they found the two men try
ing to steal a car similar to that
used by the president.
Friday morning police identified
the wounded man as Serge Ber
nicr, alias Jean Murat, sentenced
to death in absentia last month
for his part in the attempt to
machine-gun De Gaulle at subur
ban Pctit-Clamart last Aug. 22.
Bcrnier was "transport officer"
of the secret army's "Mission
three" in metropolitan France. It
was he who provided the three
vehicles from which the OAS men
launched their attack on De Gaulle
last year, police said.
Police sources said they were
working on the theory that Bernie
and his OAS colleague were steal
ing a car as part of a new plot
against Dc Gaulle when they were
surprised by police.
The shooting occurred in a quiet
side street behind the Pantheon,
tomb of many of France's illustri
ous citizens which now is surround
ed by a maze of night spots and
student haunts.
Patrolmen Jean Arcclin and
Claude Moirzot were patrolling the
area because of recent complaints
ot automobile thefts when they
found the two men attempting to
open the rear door of a locked
Citreon car.
As they approached one of the
men, Marcetteau de Brem pulled
a gun and shot Arcelin, gravely
wounding him.
Bcrnier ran but was wounded
by one of the bullets fired by
iMorizol.
Both men had false identity pa
pers. But police later established
the identity of De Brem as a well-
known secret army terrorist who,
they said, sheltered Bcrnier and
another plotter alter the attempt
to kill De Gaulle failed last
August. '
