The tempo was set when Sonny.

test the knee he injured 17 days
ago while swinging a golf club
for a photographer.
Don't kid yourself Mr. Patter

more than two weeks of loafing
must have been spent by Sonny
in a stcambath. He looks as fit
as a brand new locomotive, and
just about as hard.
The last time he boxed. Sonny
faced a heavy by the rather im

Sonny hit Vaneda a right cross
that flattened him, lifted up his
sparmate anxiously and asked:
"Are you all right'.'"
"Sure," quoth Vaneda.
At which juncture, Sonny hauled
off and completely flattened him
with a straight right.
Vaneda had an easy time as
Sonny returned to work. They!

over on the other side of the

from that used by the hotel guests.

Chamberlain collected 27 field
goals and 27 free throws against
Syracuse Sunday, but the one

the Nats defeated the San Fran

The total fell five points short

a single game.
The Detroit Pistons clinched a

ganza at New York will be sent

The New York gate w ill approx
imate $112,000 as the loud-brag
ging, poetry-spouting Clay shoots
for his 18th straight professional
victory against Jones, who achiev
ed the biggest upset of 11X32.
Los Angeles promoters hope
for a gate of between $250,000 and
$300,000 for their big outdoor
tripleheader.
Clay is favored at 31 to beat
26-year-old Jones and perhaps
earn a summer shot at the heavy
weight crown. Because both Cas
sius and Doug are good punch
ers, the price is 7-5 that the bout
ends before its scheduled 10
rounds, regardless of the winner.
Some boxing men consider
Clay's 3-1 price an "over-lay" be
cause of Jones' greater exper
ience against better opponents
and because of his sensational up
set seventh-round knockout over
high-ranking Zora Folley at the
Garden last Dec. 15.
For the Los Angeles show, New
York bookies have Griffith only a
