herself, "Livinc
But Respectful."
when her father
died, her mother
insisted that the
whole family cut

hie and entertainment.
Our dad died two years aco.
Mom told us even before the fu
neral she wanted us to go ahead
and do everything just as wo did
when dad was living. She urjed
us to carry out the same rou
tinesto keep active and busy.
Jlom never allowed us to feel
sorry for ourselves. She im.
pressed on us that we were lucki
er than most kids because we
had a wonderful father for a short
time, which is better than hav
ing a poor father for a long time.
We know, too. that God gives us
as! many years as he wants us
to have.
Our dad's memory is something
we must always strive to live up
to. I, for one, can't see myself
doing anything that would disap
point him. LIVING, TOO.
Dear Living, Too; Thank you
for a beautiful and sensible letter.
Tour dad must have been a mar
velous man. And you were doubly
blessed because you have a wise
and understanding mother.
Dear Ann Landers: I am 27
years of age old enough to know
better but I didn't. I am expect
ing a baby in June by a man
who is married. He gave me the
old line about being separated
from his wife and promised to
get a divorce as soon as her
health would permit it. 1 don't
want to bore you with the story,
Ann, it's the same one you must
hear 20 times a day.
1 bought myself a wedding ring
at the dime store and everyone
at work thinks I am married to
an army officer who had to, go
overseas.
1 know, legally, this man must
support my child but 1 don't want
anything from him. All 1 want is
to use his name wlien I check
into the hosDital. I'd hate tn en
lin under "Miss." and I'd die if
they stamped the word "illegiti
mate" on the baby's birth certi-
taate. Plea help me. DUNCE
CAP
Dear Friend: You mar not use
the man's name. It belongs to
his wife. Make up another name,
or put a Mrs. in front of your
own. Moreover, the word "Ille
gitimate" U no longer stamoed
on birth certificates regardless of
the circumstances.
If you want a list of the homes
for unwed mothers in your vicini
ty send me a self addressed
stamped envelope. I'd be glad to
help you. Thai's what I'm here
for.
Dear Ann Landers: Congratula-.
lions on your down-to-earth sen
sible advice. Now, may 1 have
some?
My husband is a good-looking.
successful executive. We've been
married for 20 years or perhaps
I should say, I have been married
for 20 years. As you know a w ife
is always much more married
than her husband.
Yesterday 1 received an anony
mous phone call from a woman.
She told me she had walked into
my husband's office and caught
him embracing his secretary. She
said she later had a talk w ith the
secretary and warned her to leave
my husband alone. I didn't recog
nize the caller s voice and she
refused to reveal her identity. All
he would say is "I am a friend."
I'm ill over this and don't know
w hat to do. Shall I tell him about
the 'phone call? I have no reason
to believe he is cheating on me
but they always say the wife is
the last to know. UN. D. SIDED
Dear In: If you would allow
an anonymous telephone call to
make you III, you have mighty
little faith in your husband.
Tell him about the phone call
calmly and dispassionately. Make
it plain that your faith in him
remains unshaken. He should be
alerted that somebody is trying
to break up his marriage.

Jobless Jump Jars
Federal Economists
WASHINGTON (UP1) - Gov.
ernment economists were con
corned today about the jarring
increase in unemployment last
month, but emphasized that it
did not mean a recession is in
the wind.
The consensus was that the
sudden rises in unemployment in
the past have not always meant
that business was in for bad
times. It is one of those flighty
economic indicators that frequent
ly puzzle forecasters.
However, there is no doubt thai
this one has them worried not
only because of the size of the
jump but because of its timing.
The Labor Department sent the
chart watchers to their record
books Thursday when it an
nounced that the seasonally ad
justed rate of unemployment was
6.1 per cent of the labor-force.
This was the highest in l;
months.
The development had an added
impact because this month busi
ness equals the recovery period
of the last recession. Economist
felt that if something were goinp
to happen, it might be now.
President Kennedy earlier this
year forecast a moderate business
expansion in 1063. Administration
economists said today they saw
reason to change this.
