Mrs. Dorothy Adams, presi
dent, called an early business
meeting after which Mrs. Jane
Craig presented Janice McCor
nack in two piano slections.
Mrs. Elda Fletcher spoke brief
ly on Delta Kappa Gamma, tell
ing its history and aims.
Special guests, Mrs. Ray Hun
saker and Mrs. Cliff Robinson,
were introduced by Mrs. Adams.
A cleverly handled talk enti
tled, "Women in Medicine," was
given by Dr. Miriam Luten. Dr.
Luten is a graduate of the Uni
versity of Oregon and holds a
major in dermatology.

To Teen-agers

Introduce your youngsters to
the game of bridge as family en
tertainment on a winter's evening.
If they take to the game, you'll
have a built-in foursome ready
for play whenever time permits.
Although bridge stimulates
thought and concentration, mother
also knows that a working knowl
edge of the game, like dancing,
singing or piano playing, is
valuable social asset to a son or
daughter.
I've knon family foursomes
who have been playing since the
Youngsters were 11 and 12. At
least one expert, William Root,
of the Association of American
Playing Card Manufacturers,

1 asked Root for some sugges
tions on how to proceed. His first
suggestion: Get a good bridge
rule book. His second: Don't over
whelm with rules at first. Take
one step at a time.
I found his sequence of steps
most interesting. They are based
on his own teen-age classroom
instruction. These steps will take
about one hour.

Klamath Council of PTA will
host members of Lake Council
PTA at a workshop to be held at
Zion Lutheran Church. 11th and
High streets, on Tuesday, March
12.
Special guests who will conduct
the workshop include Mrs. J.
Frank Snowden, chairman of pro
gram service of the national PTA
Council, Mrs. James King, state
PTA president, and Mrs. Stephen
Turel, state first vice president.
The morning session of the
workshop will begin at 9:30 with
a luncheon hour set for 12 noon
till 1 p.m. Sessions will continue
until 3:30 p.m.
All persons interested in PTA
are urged by Mrs. Arthur Farr.
Klamath Council president, to at
tend all or part of the workshop.
There will be no duplications dur
ing the day.
As president o the California
Congress of Parents and Teachers
( 1958-601, Mrs. J. Frank Snowden
served on the National Board
of Managers. She was a member
of the committee on National By
laws (19o9-60l and is currently
serving on the group rela
tions committee of the National
Congress.
Between 1947 and litis Mrs.
Snowden filled a variety of re
sponsible positions (or her state
congress; starling as district pres
ident she was progressively assist
ant chairman o( parent-teacher in
formation, director of public wel
fare, director of extension
lation chairman, first vice presi
dent, and finally president.
At the local unit level she has
served in almost every capacity;
president, chairman of programs,
student welfare, ways and means,
room representatives, magazines,
membership, and juvenile protec
tion, corresponding secretary, and
parliamentarian. She is now a
member of the Granada School
PTA, Alhambra.
Aside from her PTA work, Mrs.
Snowden has been active in many
civic endeavors. She was a mem
ber of a planning committee and
a section leader at the White House
Conference on Education in 1955.
She was also a delegate to the
1980 White House Conference on
Children and Youth. She was
charter president of an Alhambra
welfare association from 1950 to
1953. From 1958 to 1960 she was
a member of a technical advisory
committee on financing education
in California, as well as a lay
advisory commission set up by the
legislature to study public educa
tion.
Mrs. Snowden has two daughters
and five grandchildren.
