Eyed In Oregon Legislature
SALEM iLPP - Several bills
designed to curb sdvertisine al
ready have been introduced in the
1963 session of the Oregon legis
lature. More may be submitted before
the session ends.
And two measures encouraged
advertising.
One uwild keep state agencies
from adopting ami-advertising re
strictions. This same measure
would extend truth-in-advertising
provisions to include radio and
television stations.

Port Authorities Association.
It would allow ports to "adver
tise and promote the facilities and
commerce of the port, through
punuc and trade media, exhibits,
fairs..."
Ports cannot now advertise.
Reps. Kessler Cannon, R-Bend.
Juanita Orr, D-Lake Grove, and
Whelan sponsored HB1360 which is
aimed at cutting down on asency
crcated advertising restrictions.
Tlie new section provides that
"unless .tile power is expressly
provided by statute, no occupation
al licensing agency may adopt any
rule, regulation or order prohibit
ing, limiting or restricting the
right to advertise."
Cannon, chief sponsor of the
bill, and a Bend radio station ex
ecutive, also extended the truth-in-advertising
provisions to in
clude radio and television broad
casts. The "truth-in-advertising"
provisions now apply only to
printed media.
This section prohibits advertis
ing which contains any assertion,
representation or statement of
fact which is untrue, deceptive or
misleading.
Another measure by Whelan
HB1467, would prohibit barbers
from "advertising by means of
outdoor signs, window displavs or
other publication of the prices for
services rendered.

aimed at curbing gasoline price
wars through advertising restric
tions. The bill would limit t h e
maximum size of gasoline price
signs to 12 by 12 inches.
A curb on limiting quantities of
advertisied merchandise was sub
mitted by the Senate Committee
on Financial Affairs at the re
quest of the Legislative Interim
Committee cr .Small. Business enterprises.
The biU, SB120. would make it
illegal to refuse to sell an item
for the price advertised, and to
limit the amount a customer could
buy.
In case of limited quantities,
the merchant could state t h e
quantity in stock, but could not
prevent any one customer from
buying the full stock.
