the Winema Hotel Banquet Room
Tuesday night by the coaches,
fans and press of Klamath Falls.
Awards were presented to play
ers and wrestlers during the cere
monies. Basketball awards went
scoring champion in Smith.
Smith broke his own record, set
last year, to splinters as he tallied
362 points in IS games for a 22.6
average. He held the old record
of 320 points in league play. He
also has been the leading re-
bounder for the past two years but

Inspirational Wrestler and to cap
tain Ed Appleman.
There were about 150 attend
ing the banquet honoring what is
said to be the finest Oregon Tech
haskrlhaU. team in history and
possibly the best in Oregon Col
legiate Conference history. The
Owls won the league title for the
third consecutive time and es
tablished new records all around
in doing it.

winning the crown with a 13-1 rec
ord. They scored more points than
any team ever had before, aver- ,,

Coach ,Jim Pai;tlow, praising his
unit highly, and deservedly so,
said that he had looked up the
records and that Smith was the
37th leading scorer among the
nation's small college' players
which includes over 400 small
college schools which play and
each have 10-15 players. He also
noted thai the Owls' scoring av
erage in league '86.4 was 14th
in the nation.
There were no guest speakers
for the meeting hut none was
needed because Coach Partlow
and wrestling coach Howard Mor
ris spoke of their fine athletes
and no one knew them better or
could better describe them and
their own feelings toward the
bovs.
The Most Outstanding Wrestler
award was copped by Crumrine.

of ex-Yankee, had his first chance

form in an intrasquad game at
the Los Angeles Angels training
camp.
Turley, who had a 3-3 mark
itn the Yankees last season, is
looking for a lot of work on the
mound, something which the 32
year-old righthander thinks will
enable him to be an effective
starter.
The Intrasquad today was the
second one scheduled by the An
gels. Dean Chance, who won 14
games and lost 10 in his first full
season with Los Angeles, will also
make his first appearance in
game.
Manager Bill Kigney put his
crew through a two-hour condi
tioning drill Monday in 90-dc

Rigney commented after the ex
ercises, mostly nmning, that the
"moans and groans might be the
difference between a single and a
double, or a shoestring catch and
a base hit in August and September."
"They'll have time to hit and
