Girl Dies Of Hammer
sating In Utah Desert
Salt lake city (upd - An
18-year-old Salt Lake City cirl
died in a local hospital Saturday
of severe head Injuries inflicted by
a hammer-wielding assailant.
The victim, Carolo Annette
Clayton, had been in critical con
dition since she and her room
mate, Dorinda Atnes, 18, were
bludgeoned In a desolate area
near Great Salt Lake Wednesday.
Miss Atnes, a Utah 1962 Na
tional Merit Scholar finalist, re
mained in serious condition in an
other hospital.
The youth charged in connec
tion with the beatings, 17-year-oldi
Rex Hintze of Salt Lake City, was
taken back into custody after the
girl's death on a complaint of
first degree murder.
Hintze who had been free on
$5,000 bond on a lesser charge of,
assault with Intent to commit
murder, was to be arraigned be
fore Third District Judge Joseph
P. Jeppson on the murder charge.
Hintze, who was arrested near
the spot where the two girls were
beaten and buried alive in a
makeshift grave, told officers he

get the car unstuck."

Killed In Fire
MOREHOUSE, Mo. UPI - A
family of 10 was w iped out ca.'y
Saturday when flames destroyed
their frame home near Morehouse.
Paul Saville, his wife, Shirley,
and their eight children were
trapped inside. The Morehouse
fire department answered the
call but firemen said "we could
not do anything about it."
They pumped water until the
tank-truck ran dry and went for
more. When they returned, the
home "had burned to the ground,
a fireman said.
Firemen said the blaze was ap
parently caused by a defective
heater.
Mrs. Baker
Dies Feb. 22
TULELAKE Mrs. Sara Baker,
R7, mother of Raymond Baker,
long-time resident of this area,
died Saturday, Feb. 22, in Med-
ford. Iter husband, George Baker,
preceded her in death on Feb. 8
He was 91.
Mr. Baker was buried in the
family plot at Long Beach, Wash.
The Bakers were pioneers of that
area.
