That's what Coach Al Keck of Klamath Union found out this week. And in this case the rain means a rash of ills which has depicted his squad in the most crucial weekend of the league season. The news from up on the hill isn't good this week. Keck has three players, two starters, on the ill list. Fred Kelley, the big 6-3 center, and clutch ace guard-for ward Hal Holman both are sick There is a possibility they might play but that won t be known un til jusl before the game. Both Kelley and Holman were to see the doctor today and he was to give or deny his permission to play. Kelley has been struck by the flu and Holman has a bad rash. I'he third player out and he still is sick is guard Lanny Guyer Kelley came back to school only Thursday and then for only i short while. So the outlook doesn't look c.v trcmely bright for the Pelicans this week. And it comes right when the Pdicans most need to be at full strength and ability. The Peli cans will host defending state champion Grants Pass Friday night, which they have beaten twice already, and go to Medford Saturday night for the real big game. The Pelicans could virtually College ' Scores College Basketball Results By lolled Press International EAST New York U. 102 Holy Cross 71 Clark i Mass. TU 4-3101 eliminate the Cavemen from the list of contenders with a win Friday night because the Cavemen have got Crater Saturday night. Coach Keck s charges present ly are in second place with a 6-4 record and Crater tops the group with a 6-3 mark. But that lofty position has been poison for the leading team thus far. Grants Pass. Crater and Klamath have found that the leading position is a jinxed one for all three teams have led and then dropped two straight games to lose the lead. Keck still is mulling over his chances this weekend without the three ill players but hasn't given up on two of them being ready to go. Four sure starters will be seniors Wayne Chamberland. the leading scorer and rcboundcr Dick Scott, forward, guard Grnver Dahn. and sophomore forward Ter ry Ash. The other spot depends upon Kelley and Holman present Others w ho undoubtedly w ill see action if the three are still sick are Bob Moore, a steady lresh- man. and hustling seniors Bob Holman and Don Piper. Chamberland leads the team with 170 points for an ln.fi aver age. Kelley is second with 135 points and a 9.7 mean. Scott is right on Kcney's heels with 149 poinls and a 9.3 average. Then comes Holman with 130 and an 8.1 average and Dahn with 108 points and a 6.7 average. Ash. when he is on. is as cond as any player on the team. But he has his good and bad nights. Dahn has come on in league play to give the Pelicans a boost with his work from guard position. Scott is another hot and cold player but probably has the best shooting eye on the team. Chamberland is the rugged por tion of the group. He gets most of his points from underneath the basket on rebounds and he is the leader in that category. Kelley hasn't lived up to his potential since league play began and is due to have a real good game.
