Protestant Mag Offers
Birth Control Product
WASHINGTON (UPI)-A lead
Ing Protestant magazine lias ac
copied a full-page advertisement!
for a new contraceptive product,
it was disclosed today.
It is believed to be Hie first
explicit advertisement of a birth
control product ever published by
a nationally circulated family
magazine in the United States.
The ad appears on page IB of
the January issue of the Christian
Herald, an interdenominational
Protestant monthly edited by Dr.
. Daniel A. Poling.
It was placed by the Kmko Co.
of St. Louis, Mo., manufacturers
of an aerosol vaginal foam which
has been widely tested in Puerto
Rico, and which has been retri
ed in medical literature to be ef
fective as a birth control device.
Under the Comslock Act of 17H
a federal statute which has
never been repealed it is a fel
ony to send birth control infor
mation through the mails. Court
rulings have rendered the Com
slock Act virtually a dead letter,
however.

JFK, Staff Evaluate Results
Of Speech To Cuban Refugees
By MERREMAN SMITH
I PI While House Reporter
PALM BEACH. Fla. (UPI) -President
Kennedy and his staff
had an opportunity today to sift
through returns on his weekend
speech to Cuban refugees in Mi
ami where he seemed to promise
new U. S. encouragement lor the
overthrow of Premier Fidel Cas
tro.
Official activities today were in
something of a pre-Ncw Year's
lull. The President and his wife
planned to spend New Year's
Eve at a dinner dance given by
friends, the Charles B. Wrights-j
mans. roe cniel executive win
take a helicopter to the Orange
Bowl football game in Miami
Tuesday.
From across the country and
up from Latin America, however,
there were reports for the Pres
ident's perusal, indicating a
broad range of reaction to his
Saturday speech.
Emotional Setting
The setting was conducive to
motion the stone-serious faces i
of the men of Bric 2506, the
Cuban refugee outfit ci pturcd in
he 19(11 Bay of Pigs invasion.
About 40,01)0 relatives, friends'
and- well-wishers filled half of the
stadium behind the brigade. 1
The President said several
things which fanned high the
hopes of Cuban refugees for a
not-loo-distant return to their
homeland. These same passages
whipped Communist outlets in
Russia and Cuba into new cries
of "aggression" and "act ol
war" against this country.
Members of the brigade pre
scnted their beloved battle flag
to the President and he told
them in return. "I can assure
you that this flag will be returned
to this brigade in a free Cuba.
The official White House trail
script snowed that he said "a
free Havana." but the .Stain TV
partment translator who inter
pretcd at the Orange Bowl cere
moiwy said in Spanish "a free
Cuba."
This difference was minor. In
any case, it was regarded wide
ly, at least in Cuba refugee cir
cles. as a rather strong inHir-n-
tion of Kennedy's desire to keen
alive the hopes of anti-Castro
forces that their next invasion of
Cuba will be powerful and sue
ccssful.
