Teacher Group Holds Meeting
Alpha Chapter, Delta Kappa
Gamma, International honor soci
ety for women teachers, held its
October luncheon meeting Satur
day, Oct. 7, at the Pelican Party
Hoom with Mrs. Helen E. Hoff
man, president, presiding.
An interesting guest from Nu
Chapter in Salem, Neva Dallas,
state supervisor of elementary ed
ucation, opened the meeting by
reading the supplication.
Mrs. R. E. Thompson introduced!
Mrs. Ruphane Mannering who
sang several delightful solos. She
was accompanied by Mrs. Athel
Roser.
" Mrs. John Adams, first v i c el
president, gave a detailed report
on the Bend planning meeting.
Those who attended the meeting
were Mrs. John Adam's, Mrs. Paul
Deller, Mrs. George Elliott, Mrs,
Jack Wright and Mrs. Jack Kem
nitzer.
Mabel Humble and Mrs. Ida Ed
sail gave reports on the history
of Delta Kappa Gamma.
A report on the successful rum
mage sale recently held was giv
en by Mabel Humble.
Mrs. W. P. Herron, scholarship
chairman, announced that Sue
Craig, scholarship recipient, plans
to attend a meeting in the near
future.
Mrs. Myron Murray, yearbook
chairman, distributed the year
books. Ruth Obenchain directed t h e
group singing.
At a very impressive ceremony
inder the direction of Margarete
Parker, new members, Ella Red-,
key, Myrtle Caldwell, Jane Craig,
Vivian Alloway and Marie Oben
chain were initiated.
Chapter hostesses for the meet
ing were Louise Mitchell, chair
man; Mrs. John Adams. Mrs,
W. P. Herron, Mrs. Arthur Moore,
Mrs. Vern Rochek and Mrs. Paul
Deller.
The next meeting date will bo
Nov. 4. at which time Ella Red

A spaghetti potluck dinner pre
ceded the last regular meeting of
Prosperity Rebekah Lodge No.
104. Preparations were in charge
of Helen McCornack and Helen
Blanas.
Olive Hanna. noble grand, con
ducted the meeting that followed.
She introduced Mrs. George Mills,
a visitor from Glendale, Ore.-
Retha Kirby gave a report of a
visit to the Alturas Lodge which
she and several members recent
ly made. The president of the Cal
ifornia Association and several of
ficers were guests that evening.
A banquet preceded the meeting,
Helen Blanas, district deputy
president, announced that she will
conduct a candy sale, proceeds of
which will be given to the presi
dent's project the installation
of a new elevator in the Odd Fel-
Iows-Rebekah Home in Portland.
' The noble grand reminded
members of initiation at the next
meeting and asked officers to
wear formats.
At the October meeting of Al
pha Delta Kappa held at the
home of Mrs. Sylvia Harris, 457
Laguna, a very fine program in
observance of Founders Day was
enjoyed by the members. Doro
thea Buck was co-hostess for the
meeting. Those participating were
Bettv Boyle, Mabel Hansen, iyl
via Harris. Alice Tronnes. Hazel
jar Ann Rife and May Phinney.
I The local chaDter of Alhpa Delta
Kappa, an honorary society for
teachers, was organized in may
1959.
Alice Tronnes, president, gave
a report of the international con
vention of ADK held in Denver
early in August. Eleven members
from Oregon were among the 772
delegates from 4' states, washing-
ton D.C. and Ontario, Canada. Of
this number, 4fi were men who
organized the Men's Auxiliary of
Alpha Delta Kappa.
Alpha Delta Kappa has a total
membership of 17,044 in 732 chap
ters. The sorority owns Interna
tional Headquarters House in
Washington D.C
AltruisUc projects from 393 chap
ters show contributions toward lo
cal scholarships totaling nearly
$15,000. Other projects support
ed by chapter funds include edu
cational equipment for local chil
dren's homes and schools for phy
sically and mentally handicapped
children. The sorority has also
given financial aid to underprivil
eged children and families, homes
for the aged and other philan
thropies. .
During the convention. Princess
Haradja of Roumania delivered
an address desribing her life be
hind the Iron Curtain before es
caping to the United States.
The 1963 international conven
tion will be held in Pittsburg and
in 1965 the group will meet in
Seattle.
In line with other chapters, the
local group has set aside a fund
to be used as a loan fund for
worthy students. ,
