Body Found
ST. PAUL, Minn. (UPI) -The
nearly nude body of an attractive
charity worker was found in her
blood-spattered apartment Tues
day, the apparent victim of a sad
istic slayer who beat her unmer
cifully before strangling her with
a stocking.
An autopsy revealed the death
of Carol Ronan, 34, was caused
by strangulation. The Ramsey
County coroner's office said she
also had multiple head lacera
tions, a skull fracture and internal
head hemorrhage.
It said Miss Ronan had been
criminally assaulted.
All available St. Paul police de
tectives and patrolmen were
called out today in a massive at
tempt to solve the brutal slaying

Finney resumed his testimony for
the prosecution Tuesday in the
first degree murder trial of Larry
West Shipley, 20. McMinnville.
Finney returned to the stand at
3:40 p.m. after extended legal
arguments in the chambers uf
Circuit Judge Earl Conrad, for
which court had been recessed
since Friday afternoon.
Shipley is charged with the
gunshot slaying of Linda Jean
Stevens, 16, McMinnville. , Her
body was found Aug. 8 on a
wooded forest trail north of Otis
Junction.
The arguments in chambers
concerned the admissibility of
statements made by Shipley be
fore the trial.
Judge Conrad made no formal
statement on his ruling when
court reconvened, but apparently!
had agreed to admit the state
ments in evidence, since Finney's
testimony concerned such state
ments.
Finney said in court he had
questioned Shipley the day th
girl s body was found. He said
the youth told him he had last
seen the girl Sunday, Aug. 6, when
she came to the service station'
where he worked.
Finney said he was the driver
of a car that took Shipley from
McMinnville to Newport later h,
the week. He said he heardl
Shipley admit the slaying to a
sheriff's depuly and Sgt. L.W.
Brockway of the state police.
Glenn Dixon, 18. McMinnvill?,
also is charged in the slaying.
His trial will start next month.

A. Lloyd, 72, had not been in an
automobile accident in SO years of
driving and owning cars, but' he
made up for it Tuesday.
Lloyd told police he parked his
1961 car in the carport of his
daughter's home in suburban
Highland Park and stepped out.
The car rolled about 85 feet
down the street, smashed through
two chain link fences, down a 22-
foot embankment, righted itself,
crossed a street, went through
two more fences, rolled down an
other embankment, hit still anoth
er fence, broke a clothesline and
came to rest in a vacant lot.

Lloyd, who said he just got the
car back from a garage where it
had been taken twice to have the
emergency brake fixed, held on
to the side of the car for the first
part of the ride but was knocked
off unhurt when it passed be
tween two eucalyptus trees.
Damage to the car and property
was estimated at $900 by police.
