the Fort Rock-Silver Lake Soil
Conservation District here on
March 7 at 7 p.m.
Dr. Hafenrichter is Soil Conser
vation Service Plant Materials
Technician in the nine Western
States, including Alaska and Ha
waii. He heads activities of six
Plant Materials Centers including
one at Pullman. Wash. It is from
this center that Brasses and olher
seeds for trial plantings in this
SCD have been mane avauame.

is nr. Hafenrichter's lone expe
rience in working with the de
velopment of plants suitable to
cold climates and short growing
seasons. He and his co-workers
are greatly responsible for poten
tial improvements in forage in
the Fort Rock - Silver Lake SCD.
Hnvine visited this district on
several occasions, the speaker
will apply information to the
needs and conditions ot tne area.
He will illustrate his talk with
color slides.
He has a wide background o
service as a college professor be
fore joining the SCS in 1933. He
is the author of numerous publi
cations in his field. In 1947 he
received a superior service award
from the USDA for outstanding
work in assembling, testing and
developing plants usable in Inter
mountain and Pacific Coast agriculture.
His mnat recent service to ov
erseas grassland agriculture was
rfurine 1S60 when he visited eA
iperiment stations in England,
Wales, France, Switzerland ana
Italy.
In addition to the presentation
by Dr. Hafenrichter there will be
the annual speaking contest, with
two representatives from Fort
Rock, Silver Lake and Summer
T.ake schnnls. The Dublic is cor
dially invited to attend the meet
ing at the Fort Rock Grange Hall.,
Linebaugh In
Hawaii Post
SILVER LAKE - Jim Line- .
baugh, son of Mr. and Mrs. Les
ton Linebaugh, Silver Lake, sailed
Feb. 20 for Hawaii where he was
tsansferred by the Soil Conserva
tion Service.
Promoted to the status of work
unit conservationist, Linebaugh
will serve the Islands of Molokai
and Lanai, with his headquarters
in the town of Molokai, with a
population of 900 people.
Prior to his transfer, Linebaugh '
was range conservationist serving
the Grant Soil Conservation Dis
trict, with offices in Canyon City.
Following graduation from
Lakeview High School, Linebaugh
enrolled at Oregon State College,
Corvallis, and completed work for
a BS degree with the class of
1956. He began his work with the
Soil Conservation Service in Ba
ker and was transferred to Grant
County in August, 1957.
He was active in the Grant
County Toastmasters Club, serv
ing as secretary at the time of
his recent promotion. Friends and
co-workers feted him at a, fare
well party.

The students are looking for
ward to Friday, March 10. when
they will attend the Klamath
County Speech Festival to be held
at Henley High School.
Afler tryouts held last week,
the following students were chos
en to represent Keno School:
Larry Nauta, story telling; Nor
ma Sanders, serious speaking;
Rick Tnillineer, humorous speak
ing, and Rjth Dempewolf, poetry.
The entire seventh and eighth
grades will participate in choral
reading competition.
Interest is high in basketball,
now. The school's "A" team hag
won four games and lost three,
Members of the first team are
Dave Anderson. Chuck Clark.
Karl Kerns. Riik Trullinger and
Bill Heryford.
The spring project is selling all
purpose cards. Boxes of these
cards may be purchased from
any member of the upper four
grades.
The main activities taking place
now are the basketball inLramur
als, with Chuck Clark's team in
the lead.
Students are also practicing
folk dancing and will perform be
fore the Parent-Teacher Associa
tion during the April meeting.
