for top money in the $20,000 Tuc
son Open golf tournament.

Buddy Sullivan quietly headed for
the clubhouse as the 23-year-old
Hill leaped for joy. It was his
first PGA victory. :
The putt that wasn't meant to
fall earned $2,800 for Hill and
trimmed Bolt's and Sullivan's
shares to $1,670 each.
"I just hit it," said the elated
youngster. "I had no idea it would
go in. All I was trying to do was
get close to the pin for a par
Hill also had something to jump
about a few minutes earlier when
his 15-foot putt dropped for an
eagle 3 on the par-5, 510-yard
ISth hole. This gave him a 5-un-der-par
65 for the round and a
72-hole total of 269.
It also put the pressure on nine
others still on the course if they
were to tie him. At the start of
the final round, Hill had been in
a three-way tie for ninth.
Bolt met the challenge with
birdies on the last two holes for!
a 1-under-par for the rain swept,
6,464-yard, par 70 El Rio Course.
Sullivan stood up under pres
sure by coming out of trees for.
a birdie on the 18th. Bolt also had
269. Sullivan had shared the lead
at the halfway mark with Jay He
bcrt and held a stroke advantage
going into the final round.
Bolt missed a 10-foot putt for
' a birdie on the first extra hole
by less than an inch. All three
took par fours for the 368-yard
hole.
Bolt went for victory on the
second hole with a 20-foot chip
shot from the apron that rimmed
the cup and hung on the lip. He
had to settle (or a par 4 on the
450-yard No. 2 hole. So did Hill
and Sullivan. The end came on
the next green.
"I was scared all the way,"
Hill admitted. "I figured Tommy
would win. He'd just birdied two
in a row to tie me and I thought
he was in the best position. I was
nervous, but perhaps he was too."

Like the frying pan and the
fire, it's out of Iowa City (barely)
and into Bloomington tonight for
Ohio Slate's singed Buckeyes in
the second of two showdown steps
toward major college basketball's
first all-winning regular season
record in four years.
The lop-ranked Buckeyes,
breathing hard after whipping up
a 10-point late-game burst that
beat Iowa 62-61 Saturday night,
go against the revenge-minded In

bunch at home even when they
don't have a grudge to settle.
And these hurryin' Hoosiers do
have a grudge one that flamed
when Ohio State clobbered Indi
ana 100-65 at Columbus, Ohio, on
