Student Council members were
called together last Thursday af
ter school for a meeting to heap
Principal Willard McKinney give
he faculty s recommended rules
for the regulation and supervision
of student activities next year.
His report read, "In order to
strengthen the activity program,
to help students achieve social
values and balance, to retain high
academic achievement as a prime
factor, to keep health and welfare
of students uppermost, to ease the
scheduling of activities, and to
give students leadership and citi.
zenship training opportunities, the
faculty and administration have
adopted the following recommen
dations: ,
1. That a student be allowed to
hold one major office such .as
president, vice president, secre
tary or treasurer. , '
t. That a student who carries
six subjects be limited to mem
bership in three clubs or organ
izations. (Membership in clubs, is
exclusive of Girls' League or
Boys' Alliance .
3. That a student who carries
five subjects be limited to mem
bership in four clubs. . .
i. That a student be required
to petition to his class counselor
if he wishes to carry an activity
load beyond the recommended
one.
S. That meetings and activities
be scheduled according to cate
gories. .
6. That a fall leadership train-.
ing conference be held for three
days of the week prior to in-serv.
ice wek for elected officers of
all clubs.
The reasons why the re com-.
mendations are being made is be.
cause the faculty and administra
tion feels that too few students
are participating In the activity
program and that a few students
are being called on to do all the'
work. They also believe that there
are many able students who- are"
capable of handling such assign
ments and with some limiting pro-'
cedures these students will have
more opportunities.
The faculty and administration
have noted, they said, that some
students are over-participating and
I in some instances holding major
offices or the same job in more
insui urw ciuu or acuvuy. in
many cases this over-participa--
tion has attected a student s aca
demic achievement., his health'.
and his activity proficiency. It is
believed something should be done
to help correct this situation."
