Randolph Collier, D-Yreka, intro
duced a resolution in the Senate
Monday urging the federal gov
ernment and Oregon to join with
California in a cooperative study
of water pollution problems on the
Klamath River.

Six Teenagers Arrested
In Liquor Ring Crackdown
LOS ALTOS (UPH- Six teen
agers were arrested by police and
Alcohol Beverage Control Board
officers in a crackdown on a Ju
venile liquor ring operating on the
parking lot of Los Altos High
School.
Authorities said some of the
spirits being sold to high school
students was marked "not fit for
public consumption." The ring
had been under investigation for
two months. '
Five Los Altos High School
boys and Joseph Ciatti, 18, a stu
dent at foothill College, were
taken into custody Monday. Au
thorities said they were still look
ing for a man who reportedly
sold the liquor to the teenage
group for resale to their fellow
students.
Two of the youngsters were
placed in the Juvenile Hall at
San Jose, three others were
turned over to their parents', and
Ciatti was charged with grand
theft and released on bail.
Police said Ciatti stole 35 to 40
cases of wines and liquors from
a San Francisco winery, where
he was employed. Some of the
spirits were intended for making
vinegar because the acid content
exceeded the legal limit.
Arresting officers said whisky
was sold to the students at $4 a
pint and $8 a fifth. Poor wine was
sold at up to $1 a pint and $2 a
fifth.
Bill Introduced To Cut
Feather River Water Cost

first of a series of bills to reduce
the cost of water from the Feath
er River Project to agricultural
users has been introduced in the
legislature.
Sen. James A. Cobcy, D-Mcr-
ced, introduced the bill Monday
calling for the use of surplus pow
er revenues from the Feather

a 1960 graduate of Yreka High
School, was nominated a candi
date to attend the Air Force Acad
emy by Congressman Harold T.
(Bizz) Johnson of California's Sec
ond Di3trict this week.
Grazier, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Wilson K. Grazier, Route 1, was
among 17 young men from the
district to receive nominations to
one of the service academies from
Johnson.

Water Resources in line with that
of the federal Bureau of Recla
mation. The department now plans:

duce costs to municipal and indus

farmers back into the California
water picture."

Wife Denies Part In Child's Death

Mrs. Dixie Lindsey, 23, mother
of three children and expecting
her fourth child next month, told
attorney Eugene McKnight she
was beaten when she begged her
ex-convict husband to allow the
girl to return home.
She claimed Lindsey threatened
to do her in" if she tried to
stop him from assaulting the
blonde, blue-eyed girl.
Lindsey, 30, a former mental
patient, claimed Tuesday when
Rose Marie's body was found in
a field about an hour's ride from
here that he raped and choked
the child with his wife's consent
and that his wife then killed the
child by beating her on the head
with a tire lug wrench.
An autopsy showed Rose Marie
had been hit at least 19 times
on the head by the wrench found
along with an empty whisky bot
tle at the scene. Two of her front
teeth were knocked out by the

porters; "Lindsey said the rape and
choking occurred in the front
seat of their car while his wife
was awake in the rear. He said
he and his wife decided while in
Bakersfield to find a little girl
for the purpose of sexual inter
course. "He said it was Mrs. Lindsey's
idea to use the ruse about the
payment of a dollar for house
work. (Rose Marie was lured into
the Lindsey car when the couple
offered her 11 to do housework.)
Mrs. Lindsey denied taking any
active part in the kidnaping or
slaying, telling her attorney that
Lindsey beat her and ordered her'
from the auto while he raped the
child. " .
Mrs. Lindsey's left eye was
bruised and swollen when she and
her husband were captured Sun
day while they slept in their1 carl
near Livermore, Calif.
McKnight said Mrs. Lindsey
claimed she was ill last Thursday
and thought Lindsey actually
meant to hire Rose Marie to help
her clean up their home.

malady which is expected to bring
death within months.
Larry, suffering from bone can
cer underwent an amputation o(
one leg in September, 1950. He
went to school on crutches last
year, but a month' ago his con
dition became worse and he is
now at home. He has not been
informed that his malady will be
fatal shortly.
