RESOLUTIONS
As the old year wanes, and we
beiun the new;
We make resolutions that will car
ry us through.
This is all very well for folks
that are sincere.
Yet it is not as easy as it seems
to appear.
Another idea that's simple for
most folks I'm sure
Is to resolve each morning to
keep our thoughts pure.
Our neigliltors and friends may
not do what is right;
But let's not be their keeper from

We each have a life of our own
to live, and
It's not easy to find we can al
ways forgive.
So resolve each morning to see

For words once spoken can never

When does it pay a farmer to
own special farm machinery and
hen is it more profitable lo hire
custom work?
A recent study by Oregon State
College agricultural experiment
station examines the "break even"
point for various methods of
equipment-use to help farmers
compete in the highly-mechanized,
high-capital investment trends of
today's agriculture.
Frank Conklin, OSC extension
farm management specialist, and
Emery Castle, agricultural econo
mist, developed charts and tables
lo guide farmers in figuring
most economical machinery costs
for various conditions.
Alternatives discussed include
ownership of equipment, rental,
custom work, or pooling equip
ment costs with neighbors.

ed in the current issue of "Ore
gon's Agricultural Progress,"
quarterly publication of the OSC

A LINEUP CREW guides two sections of pipe together. The men guide one section
while the other is being held in place by a compressed air lineup clamp. The lineup
crew is followed by a welding crew and the entire operation is completed before
pipe goes into the ground.

The completed ditch is eight feet deep to allow room for the three-foot pipe and five
feet of fill dirt. A law requires five feet of dirt in farmlands. Ditching operations pro
ceed despite snow on the ground.

EIGHTY-FOOT PIPE SECTIONS are placed on wooden platforms along the pipeline
right-of-way before being placed in the ditch. The sections are "double ended"
two 40-foot sections welded together at a storage yard at Sprague River by the
Stanley-Bledsoe Corp. of Tulsa, Okla. More than 72 miles of pipe were processed at
Sprague River.
