The governor said this was sim
ilar to a proposal that did not
even get out of committee in the
last legislature.
"I personally think that (the
veto) is bad administration," he
said, adding that he opposed as
signing a task to one agency and
then giving another a right to
veto.
He said it was obvious there
was a difference of opinion, but
(aid the committee should be
able to come up with a flexible
proposal that would help answer
the question.
Hatfield said the Land Board
has no legal authority to consider
(pawning when it leases the sand
and gravel beds. The revenue
from the leases goes to the com
mon school fund. .
Hatfield asked for a proposal
that would incorporate these
three principles: provide a pro
gram to cover streams over
which the land board has juris
diction, aim at a more compre
hensive law covering public and
private lands, amend the land
board law (6 give the board au
thority to consult the Fish and
Game commissions before grant
ing the leases.
Search Ended

Navy ended its search for an Air
Force plane that plunged into the
sea near here two weeks ago.
Sheriff's deputies reported that
a wing and some smaller parts
of the F102 jet interceptor have
been washed ashore.
A helicopter picked up the
plane's pilot, who bailed out. .

Frye said witnesses told him
Evans was ' a former suitor of
Mrs. Milligan. He said Fletcher
and Mrs. Milligan went to Whet'
stone's house for help after seeing
Reber managed to reach shore,
but Beardslee disappeared.
The accident happened between
Scholls and Six Corners. Police
said brush and sunken logs have
hampered the search.

gon producers, and was not In the
best interest of our state and its
people."
He said the Farm Bureau be
lieves that Flemming has "alien
ated the farmers of Oregon," and
that the university president
should have the backing of all the
people.

during a parade by Northeast

Ask Extradition

Hunt, a Portland, Ore., forester

near Bliss, Idaho, on Aug. 23,
1959.
Hall, 22. of Crescent City, Calif.,
was acauitted in Goodine. Idaho.
recently of a first degree murder
charge in the case.
Gov. Robert E. Smylie signed
extradition papers on the robbery
charge Tuesday at the request of
Gooding County Sheriff Keith An
derson. Hall was taken into custo
dy on the charge last week in
Humboldt, Calif.
