Held By Police
CINCINNATI (AP-"I'm not a
dirty blonde, and I ain't 14 years
old. The guy that said, that i a
blockhead,"
That was what Cincinnati detec
tives said a girl, 11, told them
Wednesday as she, two men,
three teen-age girls and- a teen
age boy were taken into custody
in .connection with a $11 holdup
of a cafe here Tuesday night.
The girl was identified as Kathy
Porter. Officers said she was the
youngster who accompanied the
two men into the cale ana or
dered, "We'll have no killing,"
after one of the men fired a shot
gun blast into the floor and had
threatened to kill the bartender,
James Land, 66. .
The youngster had been identi
fied in a newspaper story as be
ing about 14 and as being a
"pretty but dirty blonde girl."
The two men were ordered held
for further investigation and the
juveniles were sent to the youth
center.
Figures Taken
From Yule Scene
SALEM (AP) -r- Two teenage
boys stole a plaster and papier
mache figure of the Christ child
from the nativity scene on the
mall in front of the Oregon State
house Tuesday afternoon.
The boys grabbed the figure
from the manger and fled about
4:15 p.m. A policeman saw them
but could not catch them.
The display was erected by the
chamber of commerce. Officials
said a replacement for the figure,
valued at $45, would be sought.'
SNOW MOVING TWIST '
BOSTON (AP)-Strange are the
ways of modern man confronted
with a 13-inch snowstorm. " In
downtown Boston, the snow-
clogged streets just can't take
any more snow heaved from side
walks. So some thinking men in
the Franklin Street Building of the
New England Telephone Tele
graph Co. came up with an idea.
Take the snow indoors. They
lugged it into the underground ga
rage, dumped it on the car wash
stand and let melting proceed.
