more pampered than a relaxing,
luxuriously scented bath and this
year several grand ' new, brand
new gifts for this happiest of rit
uals are introduced. Foremost
among these is beauty bath for
dry skin. This precious, golden
bath oil discovery Is of a thera
peutic type that soothes and
smooths rough, irritated skin and,
at the same time, helps it retain
vital moisture. Just one capful to
a tub works its beguiling way.
Packaged in the distinctive gold
and white carton, it's the perfect
present for the "woman who has
everything."
Team it up with dusting pow.
der in distinctive gold and white,
refutable plastic containers, and
the fluffiest of puffs, lavender or
blue. J
A glance at this appealing as
sembly of gifts for 1960 .leaves
no doubt that the famed beauty
authority appeals to every wom
an's desire for elegance and to
her sense of thrift as well. Wom
en love spray fragrances because
of their economical ease of ap
plication. Most exciting is a min
iature gold capped, "crystal" per
fume bottle, a mighty mite con
taining 225 measured sprays that
tucks easily into the smallest cos
metic or evening bag.
A whimsical "extra" gift to
hang on the tree or tuck into her
stocking is the perfumette, a de
mure, sequin attired, three-inch
manikin holding a IVi-dram per
fume filled bottle. They boast lux
urious red, blonde or brunette,
bow-bedecked tresses and are
dressed in sequin shades of blue,
green, red, pink and gold.
If she prefers soaking in suds
she'll welcome the apothecary
jars, nostalgic as an old-fashioned
Christmas. There's one in
milk glass filled with fragrant
bubble bath and a clear, gold
capped companion of delicate af
ter bath freshener.
More touches of glamour for the
tub are scented soaps in pastel
pink, blue and green. Bath soapi
assortments in six popular frag
rances are boxed and gift wrapped
in groups of three and five.

to improve your appearance takes
a second: stand up straight. If you

COLLECT WISELY
Some women collect shoes. Oth

Slackened Silhouettes Seen In Spring Styles
By GAY PAULEY
L'PI Women's Editor
NEW YORK (UP!) - We've
moved from the sack to the slack
in fashion silhouettes.
The one outstanding trend in
the spring 1961 collections in New
York's garment industry is to
clothes with a definite easy shape
clothes with a slackened sil
houette. No hour glass hugging of
the figure. Instead, a relaxed, not
tight tit.
Not that we all can climb com
fortably into the voluminous' muu
muus. skirts for spring make
strong demands on the figure,
because so many of them remain
slim. And certainly the continu
ance of the short hemline, just
skimming the knee caps, calls
for good gams.
The ease comes through the
sleeves, bodice and waistline.
Bodices are so bulky that it will
take a few tryings-on in dressingi
rooms during shopping to get
used to this roomy cut. Sleeves
are airy, and waistlines range all
over the place high, normal and
low.
Kind to Waistline
One of the strongest exponents
of the bulky, big armhole look at
the top is Jacques Tiffcau, the
young Frenchborn designer for
Monte Sano & Pruzan, a trend
setting house which recently
There was a smattering of
'string," or off-white tones.
Fabrics grow airier each sea-.-'
son. Monte Sano, for instance,
showed an Imported "lace", '
tweed, described as "thin as '
silk." '
Most woolens for spring have
a spongy, souffle texture. Cottons
in turn look like wool. And at the
House of Pauline Trigere, there
was a group of sheer wools which
looked like cotton denim, batiste:
or gingham. . :-3
New York designers generally
followed the lead of Paris in the
non-symmetrical or side closing:
in coats and suit jackets.
For spring also, look for culottes
manuiacturers who have shown; or slim, trouser skirts in daytime
showed its spring collection to
reporters and buyers,
Tiffeau gave an oval, often
smock-like shape to the backs of
coats and suits. Or else made
with cape fullness. All topped
slim skirts, eased across the tum
my with a few gathers. Over
blouses for the skirts proved kind
to the waistline not quite as slim!
as Scarlett O'Hara's.
His favorite collar treatment
was the "ring" the neckline
cut with the rest of the bodice,
but designed to stand up and
away out from the throat. Any
sleeve which came below the el
bow looked like an immigrant.
At Monte Sano. as with other
their spring collections in the last
four weeks, most changes from
last year are in color, fabric and
detail.
Airy Fabrics
Tiffeau used bright yellows,
emerald and paler greens, lush
rose-pink, a navy almost bright
enough to class as royal blue,
and a bronze-toned wool dubbed
the unlikely name of snuff brown.

Make-Up "To Your Eyes" Six Steps To Eye Beauty
NEW YORK Eyes without
make-up are like pictures with
out frames. So observes Ainslee
Arenas, make up authority.
"There's nothing new about the
idea of eye make-up, she claims,
"only improvements in the make
up itself and its application
Women through history have np-l
predated the value of its allur
ing beauty."
Eye make-up doesn't necessar
ily fall into the category of stage
or evening make-up. only. When
applied skillfully, and with a del
icate hand, it adds subtle charm
and expression to the face through
out the day.
Some of the basic rules to fol
low are summed up here by Miss
Ainslee'.
Step 1 Stand in a good light
and use a magnifying mirror to
bring everything sharply in view.
Step 2 Choose eye shadow in
soft shades of lavender, green,
blue, or turquoise to blend in
with and complement a costume
and make-up color and, at the
same time, act as a soft spoken
foundation for the more vivid
jeweled tones of liquid eye make
up which follows. Blend shadow
from lashes up to eyebrow shad
ing off and out near the brows.
Step 3 Liquid eye make-up
lends further color accent by
matching or harmonizing with the
eve shadow. Paint this intense
liquid line of color across the up
per lid near the lashes; then
while the liquid is still moist,
soften the line by feathering the
edges into the muted shadowy
background. The color remains
rcsplcndently in place without slip
ping into the-crease of the lid,
thereby giving the . eyelids a
flawlessly smooth appearance,
Step 4 Eye liner pencil gives
a definitive shape to the eyes and
enlarges their appearance. Close
the eye and gently pull the lid
taut at the corner (oriental
fashion) as you draw a clean
line along the lashes. Extend the
line about a quarter inch out and
upward at the coiner.
Step 5 Mascara. Look down
into a mirror, held at chin level,
and lightly brush mascara onto
tips of lashes. After applying to
one eye, allow to dry while brush
ing color onto lashes of the sec
ond eye. (If lashes stick together
comb" with a clean brush.) Pay
particular attention to lashes at
inner and outer corners to give
illusion of a longer length.
Step 6 Eyebrows. Groom them
first by brushing them straight
upwards. Then lightly brush down
Ihe tips of the eyebrows into a
neat wing shape. If brows are
sparse, fill them in with a pencil
in short feather strokes never in
one continuous line. To deepen
the brow coloring, apply mascara
sparingly to the surface of the
hair.
It just takes six simple steps
to bring your eyes beautifully into
focus and give you a new outlook
on life. So why not take the first
giant step to move glamorous
viewing!
