PRIDE AND JOY of the Suburban Fire Department is the disaster ear. A converted
37 -passenger greyhound bus, the disaster car contains facilities for almost any type of
emergency. The top photo shows the field kitchen (foreground! facilities, the oper
ating table and emergency first-aid station (center), and in the background the two
way radio equipment. In the storage cabinets are first-aid dressings, resuscitator,
inhalator and respirator equipment and other items used in life-saving techniques.
The bottom photo shows the huge storage compartments under the body of the car.
In this compartment is stored the portabb generator plant which makes the disaster
ear self-sustaining in remote areas where conventibnal electric power is not available.
