HESTER TURNER Lady Lawyer Plans Talk "School Relations and Law" will be the topic discussed by guest speaker Dr. Hester Turner at the dinner meeting of the Klamath County Oregon Education Associ ation (OEA to be held at the Pelican Cafe at 6:30 p.m. Thurs day, October 20. Dr. Turner is director of Pro fessional Services, OEA; is a lawyer, having received her LLB degree at the University of Ari zona in 1946, and her degree in education at Oregon State in 1956. She Is a member of the Arizona Bar Association and the Oregon Bar Association. In announcing the meeting, Lou Corrigan, president of the Klam ath County Chapter of OEA, said the business meeting will include a discussion of the local plans for American Education Week, November 6-12. Board Votes For Hearing SALEM (AP) The Board of Education today voted to recom mend that the Textbook Commis sion hold a hearing on complaints against some public school text books. The action came after several people had called some ofthe books objectionable. George Burgess, Tigard, said a literature text for 9th graders, "Adventures for Today," i "cheap dime novel trash." He said some other books were equal ly objectionable. May Darling, member of the board, said the complaints should on before the Textbook Commis sion. "We have no authority to say whether the books are gooa had nr Indifferent." she said, clt ing the law which provides that the board name a five-member commission to adopt the text books. The board then Is required to enter into contracts with the publishers for them. It was suggested to the board that a lay committee be named by the board to make recom mendations to the commission, Legion Aux Holds Meet MALIN The American Legion Auxiliary held its regular meet. Ing Thursday evening. October 13, at the community hall. Plans for the Veterans Day dinner were made, the date to be November 11. Smorgasbord dinner will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. Following were named to head the committees: Turkey, Jo Ellen Elmer; baked salmon, Bess Mc Culley; ham, Carol McCulley; meat balls, Marg Conroy;- molded salad, Lucile Gray; green salad, Pat Ottoman; potatoes, Emma Wilde; dessert, Norma Petrasek; bread, Mildred Dobry; coffee, Truly Frcitag, and tickets, June McCulley. Tickets will be on sale at the door. Plans for a continuing rummage tale were made for October 14 and IS. Musical entertainment was planned for the group by Lucile Gray and Lois Street.
