ter; add cold water. Chill until
syrupy. Whip vigorously with eggj

1 cup shortening
1 cup firmly packed brown
sugar
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1-3 cups flaked coconut
Walnut Halves
Bring figs to boil in water;
simmer about I minutes. Cool
Measure flour, baking powder
and salt; sift together. Cream
shortening. Gradually add sugar.

amounts, heating well Drop by

12 California Dried Figs
6 thin slices boiled ham
Mustard
Coer the figs with water; sim
mer over low heat about 10 to l.i
minutes. Drain. Cut ham slices
into halves. Spread with mustard.
Wrap around fig. hold together
with toothpick. Place under broil
er for 2 to 3 minutes. Turn on
oilier side and broil. Serve as an
;tpietizer or for a special brunch.

1 egg. slightly beaten
1-3 cup sugar
3 tablespoons quick-cooking
tapioca
' teaspoon salt
2 i cups milk
't teaspoon vanilla
2-3 cup chopiied cooked Cali

Mix egg, sugar, lapinca, salt,
and milk in saucepan. Lot stand
about 5 minutes. Cook over med
ium heal, stirring constantly until
mixture just comes to a full boll
and is slightly thickened or 'about
(t to 8 minutes. Remove from
heat, stir in vanilla and dried
figs. Serve warm or chilled with
whipped cream or topping.
