week.
Dr. Franz N. D. Kurie, Naval
Electronics Laboratories technical
director, made the announcement
Sunday on his return from Guam.
The Trieste plunged to a world
record depth of 37,800 feet in the
Pacific Saturday.
"The next dive will concentrate
as much as possible on obtaining
purely scientific data," said Ku
rie. He said Saturday's dive was
a test ol the structure oi tne
blimp-like craft.
The Trieste has proved we can
obtain information from great
depths on temperature, salinity,
water currents, marine life, bot
tom geology, and other factors
applicable to scientific and naval
problems," Kurie said.
Dr. Andreas Rcchnitzer, scientif
ic director of the expedition, was
expected to make the deep dive
with Lt. Don Walsh, who is the
Navy officer in charge.
Walsh made last Saturday's his

shipped back to San Diego before
the typhoon season starts in the

gave patterns and sizes or quill
blocks for two quilts. It was de
cided to make one quilt immedi
ately for a family who lost bed
ding in a fire during the holidays,
then to piece another quilt to be
tied in the regular February meet
ing for the Gospel Mission.

Rug making, led by Mrs. V.
Beyer, and knitting, led by Mrs.
Johnnie Hooper, were projects for
the Midland Extension unit. A
potluck dinner was served.

Worden Man Hurt
State police said a pickup truck
driven by Michael John Kane, 45,
Worden. spun out of control on the
Old' Midland Road about 3 p.m.
Sunday and slammed into a wir?
fence and a utility pole.
Kane was taken to Klamath Val
ley Hospital by Peace Ambulance.
His injuries were not believed se
rious. The accident occurred near
the intersection with Sutton Road.
The truck was totally damaged.

which "completely cures the pa
ralysis caused by polio," Radio
Moscow said Sunday. The broad
cast said the drug, known as Kar
