60 Season
Three games were originally
scheduled to open Victory Basket
ball League action Monday night
at Fremont School but because of
a misunderstanding only two were;
played.
The third one, a contest between
the Gun Store and Lost Kiver De
Molay, will be made up at a later
date rather than become a forfeit
win for the Gunners.
In olher action Eastsido Elec
tric roared to a 66-51 win over
DeMolay Blue while Fleets Sport
ing Goods dealt Farmers' Sand
end Gravel a 39-34 defeat.
Eastsidc's Keith Larson tossed
up a 21-point barrage to top all
the scorers for the night. He was
pushed by teammate Bill Santo
who counted 19. The losers' Hay
Scssler and Jim Parks were next
in the Eastside-Blue game with 14
and 13 points respectively.
Don Hamilton of Farmers' Sand

WINS OVER 55 YEARS
BALTIMORE Wl - Sunny Jim
Fitzsimmons was the leading train
er at Pimlico in 1904 and 55
years later ho sent Progressing to
the post to win the Pimlico Futurity.
NEW YORK (UPI) - Wilt
The Stilt) Chamberlain is devel
oping a new "finger roll" shot to
day which seems as sure as taxes
to smash all pro basketball scor
ing records in his freshman year
in the National Basketball Assn
The 7-2 star of the Philadelphia
Warriors apparently was headed
for new scoring and rebounding
records without this added often
sive stratcgem. For he already
had begun to drive on into the
basket instead of depending pi
marily an his pet fallaway jump
shot.
But now comes revelation of his
new off the finger shot which has
jumped his average to more than
42 points in each of his last 10
games.
The shot is simple if you
happen to be seven feet, two
inches tall and by an easy soar
ing leap can bring your shoulder;
level with the rim of the basket,
Which Wilt can. Then he merely
extends his arm with the palm
of the hand upward and using his
own momentum permits the ball
to roll off into the basket on a
completely indefensible shot
As if that isn't enough, the Silt
is intent on developing a hook
shot. So you can imagine what
the opposition figures on facing in
two or three more years.
The whispered hope among op
posing teams is that maybe Wilt
turn to singing before that
time. This week he recorded two
rock and roll records which crit
ics say could be in the hit category.
Wilt laughs that off. A dedi
cated player, he apparently is out
to rewrite every record in the
hooks and in his first season
is an apparent cinch to set a new
mark for scoring, scoring average,
rebounds and rebounding average.
Jack Twyman of Cincinnati cur
rently is the NBA scoring lead
er with 1,413 points but this is a
misleading figure. Twyman has
played in 45 games while in 37
games the Stilt has scored 1,378.
When the schedule evens out Wilt
will be far in front. Thus, with
38 games remaining to him,
Chamberlain on his 37.2 point av-
Fish Hearing
Set Thursday
The Oregon Fish Commission
erage seems sure to break, the
29.2 average and total of 2,105
points set last season by Bob
Fettit of the St. Louis Hawks.
Apparently he is equally cer
tain of new rebounding marks.
Bill Russell created the prevailing
standards last season with 1,612 for
a 23.5 average.
Wilt at the halfway mark has
1,041 and a 23.1 average.
ii Lnamnenain comes even
close to doubling his figures in
the remaining half of the season
he will make all four former rcc
ords appear insignificant.
