Snarls Bridges
PORTLAND (AP) - Making
change turned out to be the chief
problem when collection of tolls
began on the Interstate bridges
between Portland and Vancouver,
Wash., Sunday.
Most of the drivers seemed to
need small change to pay the
20-cent toll and headed into Lane
1, leaving the other lanes nearly
vacant.
Collectors explained they can
make change in lanes 5, 6 and 7
as well as 1 and there is no sense
in crowding into one lane.
Any lane can be used by those
with the correct change, 20 cents
a car. Commuters also can buy 40
tokens for $6, cutting the rate to
15 cents.
