Dedication

MOUNT SHASTA - The LaUer
Day Saints Church on Mount
Shasta's Adams Drive, which has
been under construction for more
than a year, is expected to be
completed, and ready for dedica
tion services by early September.
No LDS building is ever dedicated
until fully completed, according to
Ross Miller, Modesto, general
builder of the church. T. R
Pope, Salt Lake City, is the de
signing architect.
The building covers 4.060 square
feet of space and is modern
throughout. It is wired for sound
amplification for either music, or
speaking. The recreational facili
ties are. complete with kitchen and
banquet rooms.
The 'snow pitch' roof, and light
ning rod attest to the climate and
weather here being considered
and these help make the church
an attractive edifice.
Every bit of material, and all
labor has been paid for through
public donations and the cost has
been in excess of $60,000. The
church members of the area
number a few more than 100. The
chapel for "religious services will
seat 106 persons.

Race Problem
DALLAS. Tex. (AP) A Ken
tucky minister told a church con
vention Thursday racial strife
could bar men from salvation.
The Rev. J. William Kemp,
pastor of the East Maple Street
Christian Church in Nicholasville,
Ky., addressed the 43rd Annual
Assembly of the National Christ
ian Missionary Convention (Ne
gro I here. .
Dr. Kemp said Christian unity
must be sought at all levels of
experience in the church, the
family, among ethnic groups and
between man and God.
in our world there is no such
thing as a race, a pure-blooded
people," he .said. "It -is
misnomer to call an ethnic group
a racial group.
Relief Scfuqht
By Gabby Woman
SPRINGFIELD, 111. (AP) - A
woman walked into a hospital
Thursday and whispered to nurses
that she was sick of talking.
The unidentified woman told
Ihem she had been talking for
three days while demonstrating
products at the Illinois State Fair.
She told the nurses at St. John's
Hospital that now. every time she
opened her mouth, she became
nauseated.
She asked if there wasn't some
thing she could take that would
enable her to talk and feel good
at the same time. The nurses said
there wasn't.

Race Track
May Be Site
For Housing
NEW YORK (AP) - The aban
doned Jamaica racetrack in
Queens may become the site of
the largest cooperative middle-in
come housing project in the Unit
ed States.
The . city board of estimate
Thursday approved in principle
the purchase of the 178-acre tract.
The project would cost about 69
million dollars and include apart
ments for 6,350 families.
Occupants would make a down
payment amounting to $600 a
room, then a monthly mainte
nance rent of $23 per room.
The plan, recommended by the
city construction coordinator.
Robert Moses, would include
about 25 apartment buildings of I
14 stories, two schools, garages
for 450 cars and outdoor parking
for 2,100 others, and landscaped
areas.
Moses was given approval to
negotiate with the state for fi
nancing by a limited profit mort
gage corporation. A private de
veloper would be chosen to do
the job.

markers will be placed five feet

Mrs. Coble first asked for a me

or son five years ago. It is desig
nated MAU, meaning "Missing in
Action, Marker No. 1.
"It isn't like having your son
buried here but when we would go
out to decorate the grave of our
son Linville (who died after 16
years Navy service) it was such
an empty feeling to know that
there was nothing we could do for
him (Joseph Robert)."
Of the marker, Mrs. Coble says.
"P. s nice and we're proud of it
and only hope that other parents
will feel led to ask for such mark
ers for their loved ones who are
rtportcd missing in action."
The National Cemetery here has
space for 302 such markers.
So far. the office of The Army
Quartermaster General in Wash

If the families wish, the markers
may be placed ir private ceme

and taken into custody. Church
sources declined to comment.
A justice department spokes
man said the arrest was ordered
because the archbishop had criti
cized the government for expell
ing two priests. One was the head
of Haiti's largest Catholic college.
The two priests, the Rev. Etien
ne Grinenberger, rector, of Saint
Martial College and Superior of
the Holy Ghost Fathers in Haiti,
and the Rev. Joseph Marrec, both
French citizens, arrived by plane
in New, York Thursday night.
They said the government was ap
parently waging a concerted cam
paign against the Catholic church
in Haiti.
President Francois Duvalier had
personally ordered the two priests
kicked out of the country "for rea
sons of internal security." Father
Grinenberger said he and Father
Marrec were not given any offi
cial explanation for their expul
sion but he learned they were ac
cuscd of being involved in a bomb
ing plot. He gave no further de
tails.
Vatican circlyes were reported
gravely disturbed over the devel
opments in Haiti.
District Attorney Max C. Dup-
lessy had summoned Archbishop
Poirier for an article in the Cath
olic daily La Phalange protesting
that the church authorities were
not consulted or given any expla
nation for the . expulsion of the
priests.
When the prelate failed to ap
pear, the district attorney ordered
his arrest under a provision of the
penal, code prohibiting religious
authorities from censuring or crit
icizing the government.
Duvalicr's clash with the church
heightened as government troops
were reported to have killed or
captured a band of about 40 re
volutionaries who invaded the
southwest coast a week ago. The
invaders were believed to have
come from Cuba.
The army said 12 rebels were
killed before they could fire a
shot when they were surprised
near Tiburon. Other sources said
25 of the invaders were killed and
16 either wounded or captured
These informants said there were
no army casualties.
